What the GATE 2026 Result Page Displays
The result page on the GOAPS portal contains the following information for each candidate:
- Candidate's name, enrollment ID, and subject paper code
- Raw marks obtained out of 100
- Normalized GATE score out of 1000
- All India Rank (AIR) among all qualified candidates in the same subject paper
- Qualifying status marked as either Qualified or Not Qualified based on the category-specific cutoff
GATE 2026 Marks, Score and AIR Explained
Raw marks are the actual marks a candidate secured out of 100 in the examination. The normalized GATE score is calculated on a scale of 1000 using a normalization formula that ensures fairness across multiple sessions with varying levels of difficulty. The All India Rank is the position a candidate holds among all qualified candidates in their respective subject paper.
For multi-session papers, IIT Guwahati applies a standard normalization process so that candidates who appeared in comparatively harder sessions are not disadvantaged relative to those who appeared in easier ones.
GATE 2026 Marking Scheme
For Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) carrying 1 mark, candidates receive +1 for a correct answer and lose 0.33 marks for a wrong answer. For 2-mark MCQs, the award is +2 for a correct answer and a deduction of 0.66 marks for an incorrect response. There is no negative marking for Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.
GATE 2026 Qualifying Cutoff Marks
IIT Guwahati has released the GATE 2026 qualifying cutoff marks for all 30 subject papers along with the result. These cutoff marks represent the minimum score required to be declared qualified. The cutoff is lower for SC, ST, and PwD category candidates compared to General and OBC-NCL candidates.
Qualifying the GATE cutoff does not guarantee admission to any institute. It only makes a candidate eligible to apply for admission through centralized counselling portals. Admission cutoffs at individual institutes, particularly the top IITs and NITs, are typically considerably higher than the qualifying cutoff.
GATE 2026 Scorecard Download
The GATE 2026 scorecard is a separate official document from the result page and will be available for download starting March 27, 2026. Qualified candidates can download it for free from the GOAPS portal between March 27, 2026, and May 31, 2026. After May 31, 2026, a fee of Rs. 500 per paper applies for downloading the scorecard, and this facility remains open until December 31, 2026.
The GATE 2026 scorecard is valid for three years from March 19, 2026, for M.Tech, M.E., and Ph.D. admissions at IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other institutes. For PSU recruitment, the scorecard validity is one year from the result date.
Candidates must download and save their scorecard during the free window before May 31, 2026, to avoid paying the late download fee. The scorecard contains the following details:
- Candidate's name and photograph
- Registration number and paper code
- Marks out of 100 and GATE score out of 1000
- Qualifying status
- Scorecard validity period
GATE 2026 Toppers List
IIT Guwahati will release the GATE 2026 toppers list for all 30 subject papers alongside or shortly after the result declaration. The toppers list includes the names of AIR 1 holders for each subject paper along with their raw marks and normalized GATE score out of 1000.

The CCMT 2026 counselling is expected to begin in June or July 2026. Seat allotment is done based on the candidate's GATE score, rank, and category after they fill in institute and branch preferences.
For context, the highest GATE cutoff for NIT M.Tech admission in the first counselling round typically ranges from 800 to 850 for top branches like Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical, and Mechanical at premier NITs such as NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal, and NIT Warangal.
