GATE 2027 Timetable Released by IIT Madras, Check Exam Dates and Full Schedule

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras, the organising institute for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2027, has published the detailed exam schedule on the official website gate2027.iitm.ac.in. The announcement gives lakhs of engineering graduates and postgraduate aspirants across the country a clear timeline to plan their preparation and application process well in advance.

As per the notification released by IIT Madras, GATE 2027 will be conducted over five days in February 2027, on the following dates:

The examination will be held in two shifts each day, a forenoon session and an afternoon session, at test centres across India and select international locations. This year's exam will cover 30 test papers in total, including the newly introduced Robotics and Automation paper.
GATE 2027 Registration and Application Timeline
Candidates planning to appear for GATE 2027 should note the following key dates announced by IIT Madras:
- Opening of GATE Online Application Processing System, known as GOAPS: 14 August 2026
- Last date for regular registration without late fee: 21 September 2026
- Application correction and rectification window: 14 October to 21 October 2026
- Release of GATE exam city allotment notification: 4 January 2027
- Admit card release: to be announced separately, expected in the first week of January 2027
The application process will be conducted entirely online through the GOAPS portal, where candidates need to register, fill in academic and personal details, upload documents and pay the applicable fee.
GATE 2027 Exam Pattern Highlights
Each GATE 2027 paper carries a total of 100 marks. General Aptitude is a common section across all papers and carries 15 marks, while the remaining marks are distributed across the core subject and engineering mathematics sections depending on the paper chosen. Candidates can appear for either one paper or up to two papers this year, following the Two Paper Combination Model introduced by GATE authorities. All question papers will be set in English and will include multiple choice questions, multiple select questions and numerical answer type questions.
The GATE score awarded to successful candidates remains valid for three years from the date of result announcement, which is used for admission to M.Tech, direct PhD programmes and recruitment in several public sector undertakings.
