The GATE CS 2027 application process is conducted entirely online. While the process is straightforward, many candidates make avoidable mistakes during registration, document upload, and fee payment that result in application rejection or unnecessary complications. Understanding each step clearly before starting the application saves time and prevents errors that could jeopardize an entire year of preparation.
This page covers every aspect of the GATE CS 2027 application process: the GOAPS registration steps, form-filling instructions, document requirements, fee details, correction window, and important deadlines. The first action before opening the application portal is to verify that the eligibility conditions for GATE CS 2027 are met. The essential requirements are:
Full eligibility details including discipline-wise requirements are covered on the GATE CS 2027 Eligibility Criteria page.
The GATE application is submitted on the official GOAPS portal. The URL for GATE 2027 will follow the pattern: gate2027.iiX.ac.in (where X depends on the organizing IIT). The portal is activated when the official notification is released, which is expected in July 2026.
Candidates should only use the official portal and avoid third-party websites that claim to facilitate GATE applications. The GATE committee does not authorize any external agency to collect applications.
Before opening the portal:
The first step on the GOAPS portal is to create a new account. Candidates who appeared for GATE in a previous year can use their existing GOAPS credentials or create a new account depending on the instructions in the 2027 notification.
Registration requires:
After submitting the registration form, a verification link is sent to the registered email ID. Clicking that link activates the GOAPS account. Login credentials must be saved carefully, as they are required for all future activities including admit card download and result checking.
After logging in, the application form must be completed. The form is divided into several sections:
Important: The name entered in the application must match exactly with the name on the photo ID that will be presented at the exam center. Even minor discrepancies (initials vs. full name) can cause problems during verification.
Candidates must select the GATE paper they wish to appear for. For Computer Science, the paper code is CS (Computer Science and Information Technology). Candidates should select CS from the paper selection dropdown.
GATE 2027 allows candidates to appear for two papers (primary + secondary) if both are in permitted combinations. Candidates who want to appear for only one paper select CS as the primary paper.
Candidates must select three exam city preferences in order of priority. The GATE committee assigns a test center closest to the preferred city, but the exact center is not guaranteed. The assigned test center is mentioned on the admit card.
Incorrect or low-quality document uploads are one of the most common reasons for application rejection. All files must meet the size and format specifications mentioned on the GOAPS portal.
Photograph
Signature
Qualifying Degree Certificate / Enrollment Certificate
Category Certificate (if applicable)
Dyslexia / Scribe Declaration (if applicable) Candidates with specific disabilities who require a scribe must submit the relevant declaration form along with their application.
After filling in all details and uploading documents, the application fee must be paid online to complete the application.
| Category Application Fee | |
| General / OBC-NCL / EWS | Rs. 1,800 |
| SC / ST / PwD | Rs. 900 |
| Female candidates (all categories) | Rs. 900 |
| International candidates (select countries) | USD 50 (approximately) |
For candidates applying for two papers, an additional fee is charged for the second paper.
After successful payment, a payment confirmation is sent to the registered email ID. Candidates should take a screenshot or note the transaction ID for future reference.
Note: Application fees once paid are non-refundable under any circumstances, even if the application is later rejected due to eligibility issues or incomplete documents. This makes it important to verify all details before payment.
Before final submission, review every detail entered in the application form:
Once the application is submitted, most details cannot be changed until the correction window opens. Double-checking at this stage avoids complications later.
After submission, a GATE 2027 Application Number is generated. This number must be noted and saved, as it is required for all future correspondence, admit card download, and result checking.
GATE 2027 typically opens an application correction window in November for candidates who made errors during submission. During this window, candidates can modify:
Not all fields are editable during the correction window. Changes to the GATE paper, qualifying degree details, and certain personal information may or may not be allowed, depending on the specific rules announced by the organizing institute.
Correction with or without additional fee: Minor corrections are typically allowed without extra payment, but changes that affect the fee category (for example, from SC to General) may require payment of the additional fee difference.
All instructions regarding the correction window are published on the official GOAPS portal and on the GATE CS 2027 Information page.
The GATE 2027 admit card is released in January on the GOAPS portal. It must be downloaded and printed on plain A4 paper. The admit card contains:
The admit card must be presented at the exam center along with the original photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, Driving License, or Voter ID). Photo ID must match the name on the admit card exactly.
Do not fold or damage the admit card. Carry a printed copy on exam day, not just a digital version on your phone, as electronic devices are not permitted inside the exam hall.
For complete guidance on what to carry and what to expect on exam day, refer to the GATE CS 2027 Exam Day Guidance page.
Entering name incorrectly: Always match the name letter-for-letter with the qualifying degree certificate. Avoid abbreviations unless that is exactly how the name appears on the certificate.
Uploading a photograph with a colored background: The photograph must have a white or very light background. Photographs with blue studio backgrounds are commonly rejected.
Forgetting to note the application number: After submission, the application number is the only way to access the application again. Not noting it creates problems during admit card download.
Paying the fee before uploading documents correctly: Once the fee is paid, the application is locked from major edits until the correction window. Upload documents correctly before paying.
Using someone else's email ID: The registered email ID will receive all GATE-related communications including admit card links and result notifications. Using a shared or borrowed email ID is a serious mistake.
Not taking a printout of the application form: After submission, take a printout or PDF of the completed application for personal records.
The window between application and exam (September 2026 to February 2027) is the most critical period. Every week of this period should be used productively.
Use the GATE CS 2027 Syllabus to understand what to study, and the GATE CS Syllabus Tracker on AspirantMitraa to monitor topic-by-topic completion across all subjects.
For regular practice under exam conditions, enroll in the GATE CS 2027 Test Series on AspirantMitraa. Topic-wise tests can be started as each subject is completed, and full-length mock tests should be integrated regularly from October onwards. The combination of systematic study, syllabus tracking, and consistent mock testing is what separates top scorers from average scorers in GATE CS.
