The IBPS RRB Officer Scale-I Prelims 2026 is confirmed for 21st and 22nd November 2026, and the Mains for 20th December 2026. For candidates who have prepared thoroughly, exam day is the moment of conversion - where months of practice translate into actual scores. Operational preparedness on exam day - knowing what to carry, when to arrive, what the CBT interface looks like, and how to handle the strict sectional time lock - is what ensures no avoidable barrier stands between preparation and performance.
This page covers every exam-day requirement for the IBPS RRB Officer Scale-I 2026 examination in precise detail: documents, reporting time, shift structure, prohibited items, biometric verification, CBT rules, the 20-25 minute sectional lock mechanics, and what to do after the Prelims.
For the complete examination guide, visit the IBPS RRB Officer Scale-I main page. For the exam pattern and sectional timing details, see the Exam Pattern page.
| Stage Confirmed Date | |
| Prelims - Officer Scale-I | 21st and 22nd November 2026 |
| Mains - Officer Scale-I | 20th December 2026 |
These dates are confirmed per the IBPS Annual Exam Calendar 2026-27. All planning should be based on these dates. Your specific shift and reporting time will be printed on your individual admit card, which is the primary reference document for exam day.
The IBPS RRB Officer Scale-I Prelims is typically conducted in four shifts per day across both exam dates. Based on the 2025 pattern:
| Shift Typical Exam Start Gate Closing Recommended Arrival | |||
| Shift 1 | 8:00 AM | 7:45 AM | 7:00 to 7:15 AM |
| Shift 2 | 10:30 AM | 10:15 AM | 9:30 to 9:45 AM |
| Shift 3 | 12:30 PM | 12:15 PM | 11:30 to 11:45 AM |
| Shift 4 | 3:00 PM | 2:45 PM | 2:00 to 2:15 PM |
These are illustrative timings from the 2025 pattern. Your admit card specifies your exact shift and reporting time. Always use the admit card as the definitive reference, not general shift timings from any source.
Arrive at the examination centre at least 60 minutes before gate closing to allow for:
Missing any mandatory document may result in denial of entry. Prepare these the night before.
The admit card must be printed on A4-size white paper. Digital copies on mobile phones or tablets are not accepted at any IBPS examination centre.
Before arriving at the centre:
At the centre:
Print at least 2 copies - one for submission and one as your personal record.
A valid, original, government-issued photo ID is mandatory. Accepted documents:
| Document Accepted | |
| Aadhaar Card (physical) | Yes |
| PAN Card | Yes |
| Passport | Yes |
| Voter ID Card (EPIC) | Yes |
| Driving Licence (permanent) | Yes |
| College/University Photo ID | Yes |
| Government/PSU Employee ID | Yes |
Mobile Aadhaar (digital on phone) is not accepted. The physical Aadhaar card or a printed E-Aadhaar downloaded from UIDAI is acceptable. Carry a photocopy of the ID along with the original. Both are verified at the centre.
Two recent passport-size photographs identical to the application photo. One goes on the admit card; the second is required for the attendance register or biometric record at the examination centre.
Required for the left thumb impression on the admit card and attendance sheet. IBPS examination centres do not provide ink pads. Carry your own blue or black ink stamp pad.
Used for signing documents, the attendance sheet, and the admit card at the centre. The examination itself is computer-based - pens are not used for answering questions. However, rough work during Mains Numerical sections uses physical rough sheets provided at the terminal.
A transparent water bottle (without labels, stickers, or opaque sections) is permitted at most IBPS examination centres.
IBPS enforces strict prohibition on electronic and communication devices. Being found with any prohibited item - even switched off, in a bag, in a pocket - can lead to immediate cancellation of candidature and potential debarment from future IBPS examinations.
| Category Prohibited Items | |
| Electronic Devices | Mobile phones (absolutely prohibited regardless of mode), smartwatches, Bluetooth earphones/earbuds, digital watches with data capability, tablets, pagers |
| Calculation Devices | All calculators - handheld, app-based, or device-integrated |
| Study Material | Books, notebooks, printed notes, loose papers with any writing |
| Stationery | Pencil cases, rulers, correction fluid, geometry sets |
| Other | Non-transparent bags, expensive jewellery, large metallic accessories |
Mobile phones deserve specific emphasis. Leave your phone at home or in your vehicle. The IBPS notification explicitly prohibits mobile phones inside examination premises, even switched off. Most IBPS RRB examination centres have no secure storage for phones. Being found with a mobile phone anywhere on examination premises - even outside the hall, in a waiting area - can result in cancellation of candidature under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
IBPS conducts full biometric verification before candidates enter the examination hall:
Photograph capture: A webcam photograph is taken at the centre and digitally matched with your application photo. Present yourself as you appeared in the uploaded photograph - similar clothing style, hairstyle, and no dramatic appearance changes.
Signature verification: Sign in front of the invigilator. Compared against the uploaded signature. Signatures in block capitals or dramatically different from the uploaded signature are flagged.
Thumb impression: Left thumb impression taken at the centre and matched against the uploaded impression.
Any significant discrepancy triggers secondary verification, which adds time and stress before the examination. Match your appearance to your application photo as closely as practical.
The IBPS RRB Officer Scale-I Prelims is entirely computer-based. If this is your first banking CBT experience, understanding the interface before exam day prevents confusion during the actual paper.
The interface displays:
Navigation:
The most operationally important feature of the IBPS RRB Officer Scale-I Prelims is the strict sectional time lock. When the timer for one section expires:
In the 2025 IBPS RRB Officer Scale-I Prelims:
Note: This allocation was the reverse of some earlier years (where Reasoning had 20 minutes and Numerical Ability had 25 minutes). Always verify the exact sectional timing from your 2026 admit card before the exam. Do not assume the allocation based on any source other than your actual admit card or the 2026 official notification.
What this means in practice:
For the section that ends first (20 minutes), spend the last 90 seconds confirming that all Mark for Review questions have been revisited and answered or deliberately left blank. Do not leave answers in Mark for Review status intending to come back - that section will lock and those questions will be unanswered.
When the section locks, accept the transition and begin the next section without dwelling on the previous one. Candidates who mentally linger on the previous section's questions lose precious seconds from the next section's clock.
Reasoning (25 minutes, 40 questions - based on 2025 pattern):
With 25 minutes, the pace is 37.5 seconds per question on average. Non-puzzle questions (Syllogisms, Inequalities, Blood Relations, Directions, Alphanumeric Series) should be attempted first - these typically take 30 to 60 seconds each and collectively account for 15 to 20 questions of relatively quick marks. Reserve 14 to 16 minutes for puzzle sets. Evaluate each puzzle set in 30 to 45 seconds - if the first two conditions suggest the set is solvable within 4 minutes, commit to it; otherwise move to the next puzzle.
Numerical Ability (20 minutes, 40 questions - based on 2025 pattern):
With 20 minutes, the pace is 30 seconds per question on average. Begin with Simplification/Approximation - 10 to 15 seconds per question for well-prepared candidates. Number Series next. Arithmetic questions follow. DI sets last - read all questions in a set in 20 to 25 seconds before deciding whether the calculation intensity justifies the time investment. If a DI set appears very calculation-heavy, skip to another set and return only if time permits.
Target: 52 to 62 total attempts out of 80 with above 85% accuracy is the safe benchmark for most competitive states based on 2025 analysis.
Inside the examination hall:
If you clear the Prelims (result expected within 3 to 4 weeks after the 22nd November 2026 exam), the Mains is on 20th December 2026 - approximately 4 weeks after the last Prelims date.
This is an extremely tight window. Begin Mains preparation immediately after the Prelims examination, not after the result. The General Awareness section (which differentiates candidates most in Mains) requires sustained preparation, not last-minute cramming. Computer Knowledge, which appears in Mains, should also be active from the Prelims date.
Keep both Prelims admit cards safely after examination. Both may be required at the Mains centre or for any subsequent verification.
Evening before:
Morning of the exam:
Is a digital admit card on mobile phone accepted at IBPS RRB centres? No. A printed admit card on A4 white paper is mandatory. Digital copies on any device screen are not accepted.
Which section comes first in IBPS RRB Officer Scale-I Prelims - Reasoning or Numerical Ability? The 2025 exam had Reasoning (25 minutes) first, followed by Numerical Ability (20 minutes). This may vary in 2026. Verify from your 2026 admit card before the exam.
Can I carry a calculator to IBPS RRB examination centre? No. All types of calculators are strictly prohibited. All Numerical Ability calculations must be done mentally or on physical rough sheets provided at the terminal.
What if my computer freezes during the exam? Raise your hand immediately to alert the invigilator. Do not touch the terminal. Centre staff will resolve the issue or assign a spare terminal. Time compensation for technical failures is handled per IBPS guidelines.
Are rough sheets provided at the examination centre? Yes. Physical rough sheets are provided at each computer terminal for calculations. All rough sheets must be submitted to the invigilator before leaving the hall. Taking rough sheets out of the hall is a violation.
