The IBPS SO IT Officer cutoff is the minimum score a candidate must achieve at each stage to advance to the next. Unlike most banking exams, IBPS SO IT Officer has three separate cutoff thresholds: the Prelims cutoff (qualifying), the Mains Professional Knowledge cutoff (shortlisting for interview), and the final merit cutoff (selection). Understanding all three is essential for setting realistic targets at each stage of preparation.
The most important cutoff is the Mains Professional Knowledge cutoff, because Mains carries 80% of the final merit weightage. A candidate who barely clears the Mains cutoff will rank low in the final merit list. Targeting a competitive Mains score — not just the minimum qualifying marks — is the key to final selection.
The 2026-27 cycle (CRP SPL-XVI) Prelims is on August 29, 2026. The Prelims cutoff will be released with the Prelims result in September to October 2026. The Mains is on November 1, 2026; the Mains cutoff will be released with the Mains result in November to December 2026.
This page will be updated with official 2026 cutoffs as they are released. Current data covers 2021-2025 cycles.
| Cutoff Type When Released Purpose Used for Merit? | |||
| Prelims Overall Cutoff | With Prelims result | Shortlisting for Mains | No |
| Prelims Section-wise Cutoff | With Prelims result | Must clear each section independently | No |
| Mains Overall Cutoff | With Mains result | Shortlisting for Interview | Yes (80% weightage in final) |
| Final Merit Cutoff | After Interview | Final selection | Yes (Mains 80% + Interview 20%) |
Important: Prelims is qualifying only. Prelims scores are not added to the merit. Only Mains Professional Knowledge (80%) + Interview (20%) determine final selection.
The IBPS SO IT Officer Prelims cutoff is released section-wise and overall. Candidates must clear both.
| Year UR OBC SC ST EWS | |||||
| 2024-25 (CRP SPL-XV) | 62.50 to 68.00 | 57.50 to 62.00 | 48.00 to 53.00 | 40.00 to 45.00 | 58.00 to 63.00 |

| 2022-23 (CRP SPL-XIII) | 58.75 to 64.25 | 54.00 to 59.50 | 45.50 to 50.50 | 37.50 to 42.50 | 55.00 to 60.00 |
Note: These ranges reflect variation across different IT Officer sub-categories and participating banks. Official cutoff PDFs for each cycle are available at ibps.in.
| Section Max Marks UR Sectional Minimum (Approx.) | ||
| Reasoning | 50 | 10 to 13 |
| English Language | 25 | 6 to 8 |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 50 | 10 to 13 |
The section-wise minimums are low in absolute terms but still act as a safety net. A candidate who completely neglects one section and scores 0 may fail the sectional cutoff even if they score high overall. All three sections must receive adequate preparation attention.
Based on the 2024-25 and 2023-24 cutoff ranges, the following targets provide a safe buffer:
| Category Historical Prelims Cutoff Range Safe Target 2026 Competitive Score | |||
| UR | 62 to 68 | 72 to 78 | 82 or above |
| OBC | 57 to 62 | 67 to 72 | 76 or above |
| SC | 48 to 53 | 57 to 62 | 66 or above |
| ST | 40 to 45 | 49 to 54 | 58 or above |
| EWS | 58 to 63 | 68 to 73 | 77 or above |
The Mains cutoff is the most strategically important cutoff because Mains marks carry 80% of the final merit. Scoring just above the minimum Mains cutoff places a candidate near the bottom of the merit list, with limited chance of final selection.
| Year UR OBC SC ST EWS | |||||
| 2024-25 | 27 to 32 | 24 to 28 | 19 to 23 | 16 to 20 | 25 to 30 |
| 2023-24 | 25 to 30 | 22 to 26 | 18 to 22 | 15 to 19 | 23 to 28 |
| 2022-23 | 24 to 29 | 21 to 25 | 17 to 21 | 14 to 18 | 22 to 27 |
These are approximate ranges based on candidate experience and publicly available data. Official Mains cutoffs for each cycle are released on ibps.in.
| Category Estimated Mains Cutoff (Out of 60) Safe Target Competitive Score | |||
| UR | 27 to 32 | 36 to 42 | 45 or above |
| OBC | 24 to 28 | 32 to 37 | 41 or above |
| SC | 19 to 23 | 27 to 31 | 34 or above |
| ST | 16 to 20 | 23 to 27 | 30 or above |
A Mains score of 40+ (out of 60) for UR candidates provides strong competitiveness in the final merit calculation, assuming a reasonable Interview performance.
The final selection cutoff is based on the weighted formula: (Mains marks × 0.80) + (Interview marks × 0.20). This is not officially published as a standalone cutoff; candidates above this threshold in merit order are provisionally allotted to banks.
| Scenario Mains (out of 60) Interview (out of 100) Final Score (Weighted) | |||
| Borderline | 30 | 60 | (30×0.80) + (60×0.20) = 24 + 12 = 36 |
| Competitive | 40 | 70 | (40×0.80) + (70×0.20) = 32 + 14 = 46 |
| Strong | 48 | 80 | (48×0.80) + (80×0.20) = 38.4 + 16 = 54.4 |
A final weighted score of 44 to 50+ typically places UR candidates within the selection range, though this varies by the total number of vacancies for each bank-category combination.
Understanding which IT subjects contribute most to the 60-mark Mains paper helps focus preparation effort.
| Subject Average Questions per Shift Approximate Marks | ||
| DBMS (SQL, Normalization, Transactions) | 10 to 14 | 10 to 14 |
| Networking (OSI, TCP/IP, Subnetting, Security) | 9 to 13 | 9 to 13 |
| Operating Systems | 8 to 12 | 8 to 12 |
| Data Structures and Algorithms | 8 to 11 | 8 to 11 |
| OOP (Java/C++) | 6 to 9 | 6 to 9 |
| Software Engineering | 4 to 7 | 4 to 7 |
| Computer Organisation | 4 to 7 | 4 to 7 |
| Cybersecurity and Cloud (recent addition) | 3 to 5 | 3 to 5 |
Targeting 40 out of 60 requires strong performance in DBMS, Networking, OS, and DSA — which together account for approximately 40-50 marks. Scoring 90% on these four subjects while maintaining reasonable coverage of the others produces a competitive Mains score.
Unlike Prelims, the Mains Professional Knowledge paper has only one overall cutoff. There is no subject-wise minimum within the IT Professional Knowledge paper. A candidate who scores heavily in DBMS and Networking while underperforming in Software Engineering can still clear the Mains cutoff as long as the overall total exceeds the threshold.
However, from a merit-ranking perspective, neglecting any subject limits the ceiling of the Mains score. Candidates in the top 20% of Mains scorers (who have the best chance of final selection) typically have breadth across all IT subjects.
| Factor Effect | |
| Total IT Officer vacancies | More vacancies → lower competitive cutoff; fewer → higher |
| Number of candidates appeared | More candidates per vacancy → higher cutoff clustering |
| Mains paper difficulty | Harder paper → lower average scores → lower absolute cutoff |
| Normalisation (if multiple shifts) | Adjusts scores ±1 to 3 marks across shifts |
| Bank-wise vacancy distribution | Candidates prefer higher-paying banks; those banks have higher effective cutoffs |
| Category-wise vacancy count | Category with fewer vacancies has lower probability of selection per candidate |
| Exam Stage UR Cutoff Range Notes | |||
| IBPS SO IT Prelims | Out of 125 | 62 to 68 | General aptitude; moderate difficulty |
| IBPS SO IT Mains | Out of 60 | 27 to 32 | IT technical; requires deep CS knowledge |
| IBPS PO Prelims | Out of 100 | 49 to 59 | Lower marks requirement |
| IBPS Clerk Prelims | Out of 100 | 60 to 72 | Higher attempt volume; higher clustering |
| RBI Grade B Phase 1 | Out of 200 | 102 to 107 | Most competitive banking exam |
The IBPS SO IT Mains cutoff (27-32 out of 60) appears lower than other exams, but the difficulty of the IT technical paper means scoring even 40 out of 60 requires strong Computer Science fundamentals. This is not a subject where last-minute preparation is effective.

The Prelims cutoff (62-68 for UR out of 125) suggests approximately 50-55% correctness across all three sections. This is a moderate threshold. Targeting 72-78 (58-62% correctness) provides a safe buffer.
Since Prelims is qualifying only, over-investing time in Prelims preparation comes at the cost of Mains technical study. Once your Prelims mock test scores consistently exceed 72+ for UR, redirect preparation effort to the Mains technical subjects.
The Mains cutoff (27-32 for UR out of 60) is approximately 45-53% correctness on the IT technical paper. However, the competitive score for selection is significantly higher (38-45+). Use this data to set a realistic Mains mock test target of 40+.
Review Mains professional knowledge mock performance by subject. If DBMS is consistently 80%+ but OS is only 40%, the OS gap is worth more preparation time per mark gained than further perfecting DBMS.
What is the IBPS SO IT Officer Prelims cutoff for 2025? Based on CRP SPL-XV (Prelims August 30, 2025), the approximate UR cutoff was 62 to 68 out of 125. Official cutoff PDFs are released on ibps.in with the result notification.
Is the Mains cutoff the final selection cutoff? No. The Mains cutoff determines who is shortlisted for Interview. The final selection cutoff is based on Mains (80%) + Interview (20%) combined weighted score.
Is there a section-wise cutoff in Mains? No. The Mains Professional Knowledge paper has only an overall cutoff. No subject-wise minimum applies within the 60-mark Mains paper.
What score should I target in Mains to get selected? For UR candidates, a Mains score of 40+ (out of 60) with a reasonably strong interview (70+/100) produces a competitive final weighted score. Scoring 45+ in Mains significantly improves selection probability.
When will the CRP SPL-XVI cutoff be released? The Prelims cutoff will be released with the Prelims result in September to October 2026. The Mains cutoff will be released with the Mains result in November to December 2026.
