Candidates who clear the Prelims section-wise and overall cutoffs are shortlisted for Mains. IBPS typically shortlists a fixed multiple of vacancies for Mains.
For IT Officer Scale I:
The actual shortlisting ratio is at IBPS's discretion and is announced with the Prelims result.
The Mains result process is identical to the Prelims result process.
| Step Action | |
| 1 | Visit ibps.in |
| 2 | Navigate to "CRP SPL-XVI" → "Mains Result" |
| 3 | Download the Mains result PDF |
| 4 | Search for your roll number using Ctrl+F |
| 5 | If your roll number appears, you are shortlisted for Interview |
The Mains scorecard shows the normalised Professional Knowledge score (out of 60). Download it through the IBPS candidate login portal within the active download window.
The selection process includes Prelims (qualifying), Mains (80% weightage), and Interview (20% weightage).
| Component Marks Weightage | ||
| Mains Professional Knowledge | 60 (normalised) | 80% |
| Interview | 100 marks (normalised to 20%) | 20% |
Final Score = (Mains Score × 0.80) + (Interview Score × 0.20)
Note: The Mains score (60 marks) and Interview score (100 marks) are typically scaled before applying the weightage formula in IBPS's normalisation methodology.
| Mains (out of 60) Interview (out of 100) Final Weighted Score | ||
| 30 | 55 | (30×0.80) + (55×0.20) = 24 + 11 = 35 |
| 38 | 65 | (38×0.80) + (65×0.20) = 30.4 + 13 = 43.4 |
| 45 | 75 | (45×0.80) + (75×0.20) = 36 + 15 = 51 |
| 50 | 80 | (50×0.80) + (80×0.20) = 40 + 16 = 56 |
A Mains score of 40+ with a reasonable Interview (70+/100) produces a competitive final merit score. Mains performance is far more important than Interview performance in determining final selection, given its 80% weightage.
Candidates who clear the Mains cutoff are called for the Interview by the participating banks. The Interview is conducted by a panel typically comprising 4-5 members including bank officials and HR representatives.
| Category Likely Topics | |
| Technical Knowledge | DBMS, Networking, OS, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity; same as Mains but conversational depth |
| Banking Technology | Core Banking Solution, digital payments (UPI, RTGS, NEFT), RBI IT guidelines, fintech trends |
| Current IT Trends | Artificial Intelligence in banking, blockchain, cloud migration, cybersecurity threats |
| General Banking Awareness | Banking sector knowledge, recent developments, RBI policies |
| Personal/HR | Why banking, career goals, strengths and weaknesses, about yourself |
| Current Affairs | Recent IT and banking news |
Technical depth matters: The panel often includes a technical IT specialist. Surface-level answers to DBMS or Networking questions will be probed further. Candidates should be able to explain concepts clearly and discuss practical applications.
Banking technology awareness is critical: An IT Officer candidate who cannot explain what CBS (Core Banking Solution) is or how UPI works at a technical level will underperform in the interview. Study banking-specific IT applications alongside core CS subjects.
Be ready for follow-up questions: If you mention Python or Java experience, expect questions on specific language features. If you mention cloud computing, expect questions on AWS or Azure services. Only mention what you are confident discussing.
After the Interview and final merit list preparation, IBPS conducts provisional allotment of selected candidates to participating banks.
The IBPS SO 2025 Provisional Allotment List (CRP SPL-XV) has been released on 17th February 2026.
| Step Process | |
| 1 | Final merit lists are prepared for each category |
| 2 | Candidates are ranked by final weighted score (Mains 80% + Interview 20%) |
| 3 | Higher-ranked candidates get their preferred banks first |
| 4 | Lower-ranked candidates receive available banks based on remaining vacancies |
Bank preference selected during application determines which bank you are allotted to, subject to your merit rank and the vacancies available in each bank for your category.
| Action Priority Timing | ||
| Download Prelims scorecard | High | Within active download window |
| Begin intensive Mains preparation immediately | Critical | Same day as result |
| Download Mains admit card when released | High | As soon as available |
The gap between Prelims result (September-October 2026) and Mains (November 1, 2026) is approximately 3-5 weeks. This is a very short window for candidates who deferred Mains technical preparation.
The single most important action after clearing Prelims is to shift all preparation time to the Mains Professional Knowledge subjects. Candidates who have been preparing Mains subjects in parallel with Prelims are in a far stronger position.
Mains preparation priorities in the 3-5 week window:
| Action Purpose | |
| Download Prelims scorecard | Identify which section had the lowest score relative to cutoff |
| Analyse section gaps | Was it Reasoning (puzzles), QA (DI), or English? |
| Plan for CRP SPL-XVII | Next cycle notification expected July 2027 |
| Continue Mains technical preparation | Mains preparation is never wasted; IT knowledge builds year over year |
The most common Prelims failure reasons: Reasoning below sectional cutoff due to puzzle difficulty, or QA below sectional cutoff due to insufficient DI practice. Both are fixable with targeted 3-4 month preparation.
If the Prelims is conducted in multiple shifts (typically 2-3 per day), IBPS applies normalisation to account for difficulty variation between shifts.
The normalisation methodology adjusts scores based on the mean and standard deviation of each shift's performance. Practically:
Target a buffer of 8-12 marks above the expected cutoff to account for potential normalisation adjustments in either direction.
| Stage Description Timing | ||
| Provisional Allotment | IBPS releases list of selected candidates and their allotted banks | February-March 2027 |
| Pre-joining Verification | Allotted banks verify documents and conduct background checks | March-April 2027 |
| Joining | Selected candidates join as IT Officer Scale I probationers | April-May 2027 |
| Probation Period | 2 years; training at bank's staff college and postings | 2027-2029 |
"Provisional" allotment becomes confirmed after document verification and pre-employment medical examination by the allotted bank. Candidates who do not meet document or medical requirements may lose their allotment even after the provisional list is published.
