Verifying eligibility before applying for the LIC AAO examination is non-negotiable. Life Insurance Corporation of India enforces its eligibility conditions rigorously at the Pre-Recruitment Medical Examination and document verification stages. Candidates who clear all three examination stages and the interview but fail medical verification face cancellation of selection. Since LIC AAO is conducted infrequently and vacancies are limited, missing a cycle due to an eligibility error that could have been identified before applying is a significant setback.
This page provides a complete breakdown of every eligibility condition for LIC AAO 2026 - nationality, age, educational qualification for each post, medical standards, and the key conditions unique to specialist posts - based on the official 2025 notification.
For the complete examination guide, visit the LIC AAO main page.

The LIC AAO age requirement for all posts is a minimum of 21 years and a maximum of 30 years.
Age Cut-off Date: Age is calculated as on 1st August of the application year. For the 2026 cycle, the cut-off is 1st August 2026.
This means candidates must have been born:
| Category Relaxation Effective Maximum Age | ||
| SC/ST | 5 years | 35 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years | 33 years |
| PwBD | 10 years | 40 years |

Employees of LIC who are in permanent employment with at least 5 years of completed service may be eligible for internal quota applications with a relaxed upper age limit of 45 years. These positions are filled from internal applications separately from the open market recruitment. The open market (external) recruitment applies the standard 21 to 30 years limit as described above.
This is where LIC AAO eligibility differs most significantly from banking examinations. While IBPS Clerk and SBI Clerk require only a pass in graduation, LIC AAO Generalist requires a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in graduation (60% for some specialist posts). This percentage condition is one of the most commonly overlooked eligibility requirements.
Required: Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks (relaxed to 50% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates).
This minimum percentage condition is a meaningful filter. Candidates who passed graduation but with aggregate below 55% do not qualify for AAO Generalist. Always verify your aggregate percentage before applying.
"Aggregate" means the combined percentage across all years/semesters of the graduation programme, not just the final year or final semester.
Required: Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Information Technology, Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Electronics and Instrumentation, or equivalent qualification from a recognised university. Minimum 60% aggregate marks.
Additional requirement: The candidate must have knowledge of programming languages and exposure to development of business applications/enterprise applications.
Candidates with B.Tech/B.E. in Computer Science or Electronics also qualify if the aggregate marks criteria is met.
Required: Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university AND must be an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) - meaning the CA Final must have been completed.
The Associate Membership of ICAI effectively means having cleared all three levels of the CA examination (Foundation, Intermediate/IPCC, and Final) and having completed the required Articleship. Simply having cleared CA Intermediate is not sufficient.
There is no separate minimum percentage requirement in graduation for this post since the professional CA qualification takes precedence.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or Statistics or Mathematical Statistics or Actuarial Science from a recognised university AND must have passed a minimum of 4 papers of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), London OR 4 papers of the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) from the Core Technical (CT) or equivalent series.
This is the most specialised eligibility requirement among all LIC AAO posts. The actuarial qualification (passing 4 papers from recognised actuarial institutes) is mandatory in addition to graduation.
Required: Post-graduation in Hindi with English as one of the subjects at graduation level, OR Post-graduation in English with Hindi as one of the subjects at graduation level, OR Post-graduation in Sanskrit with Hindi and English as subjects at graduation level.
Alternative: Graduation with Hindi, English, and Sanskrit as subjects with passing knowledge of all three.
This post specifically tests candidates for their ability to handle official language (Hindi) functions in LIC's Rajbhasha department, which is responsible for implementing the Official Languages Act, 1963.
Required: A Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) from a recognised university with minimum 55% aggregate marks AND must be enrolled as an Advocate with a Bar Council.
The enrolment as Advocate is mandatory. Law graduates who have not enrolled with any State Bar Council do not qualify even if they hold an LLB degree.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering in the relevant discipline from a recognised university with minimum 60% aggregate marks.
The relevant disciplines for each AE post are Civil Engineering (for AE Civil), Electrical Engineering (for AE Electrical), and so on. The specific engineering discipline must match the AE post applied for.
Unlike most banking examinations, LIC AAO has specific medical fitness requirements that are verified through a Pre-Recruitment Medical Examination. This examination is conducted only for candidates who have cleared all three stages (Prelims, Mains, and Interview) and received a provisional selection offer.
LIC specifies minimum vision standards for AAO candidates. The exact thresholds are specified in each notification, but general requirements include:
The Pre-Recruitment Medical Examination checks:
Persons with Benchmark Disability are eligible for specified categories of disabilities. The specific posts for which PwBD reservation applies and the permitted disability types are specified in each year's notification. Medical fitness standards for PwBD candidates are evaluated with reference to their specific disability category and the tasks associated with the post.
Important: Candidates with known medical conditions should consult a physician regarding whether their condition might affect LIC's medical clearance before investing years in preparation and multiple examination stages.
LIC AAO has no limit on the number of attempts. Candidates can apply for every recruitment cycle as long as they satisfy the age condition and educational qualification. This is different from SBI PO (4 attempts for General) and UPSC CSE (6 attempts for General).
Since LIC AAO is not conducted annually on a fixed schedule, candidates who miss a cycle do not lose an "attempt" - they simply wait for the next recruitment announcement.
The LIC AAO notification typically specifies that the required degree must be obtained before a certain cut-off date. In the 2025 cycle, candidates must have passed the bachelor's degree examination on or before 1st August 2025 (the age cut-off date).
This effectively means final-year students who have not yet received their results cannot apply for LIC AAO, unlike IBPS Clerk or SBI Clerk which allow provisional applications for final-year students. Verify the exact condition from the official 2026 notification, as this is explicitly stated in the eligibility section.
The minimum percentage requirement deserves explicit focus because it eliminates many candidates who assume any graduation pass makes them eligible.
For AAO Generalist: 55% aggregate (50% for SC/ST/PwBD) For AAO Legal: 55% aggregate in LLB For AAO IT: 60% aggregate For Assistant Engineer: 60% aggregate
How to calculate your aggregate:
If your graduation result is expressed in CGPA, convert using the conversion factor specified by your university. In the absence of a university-specified conversion, use the formula: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5 (as per UGC guidelines for 10-point CGPA systems).
For candidates applying under OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) category, the OBC certificate must be from the Central List of OBCs as maintained by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. A state-issued OBC certificate that is not on the Central List is not valid for LIC AAO (a central government institution's recruitment).
The OBC certificate must also be non-creamy layer - candidates from the creamy layer of OBC are not eligible for OBC reservation and must apply in the General category.
EWS (Economically Weaker Section) reservation is available for candidates from the General category with family annual income below Rs. 8 lakh from all sources and who do not own agricultural land of 5 acres or more, a residential flat of 1,000 sq ft or more, or specified residential plots in notified municipalities.
The EWS certificate must be issued by a competent authority in the prescribed format for the financial year preceding the year of application.
Complete the following verification before submitting the LIC AAO application:
What is the minimum percentage required for LIC AAO Generalist? 55% aggregate marks in graduation from a recognised university. SC/ST/PwBD candidates need a minimum of 50%. This percentage condition eliminates many candidates who have only a pass in graduation.
Can a final-year graduation student apply for LIC AAO? Generally no. LIC AAO typically requires the degree to be completed and results declared before the age cut-off date (1st August of the application year). Unlike IBPS Clerk or SBI Clerk, provisional applications for final-year students are not standard practice in LIC AAO. Verify from the official 2026 notification.
Is there an attempt limit for LIC AAO? No. There is no limit on the number of attempts. Candidates can apply in every LIC AAO recruitment cycle as long as they are within the age limit.
What happens if I fail the Pre-Recruitment Medical Examination? Failing the medical examination results in cancellation of the provisional selection. The candidate is not offered the AAO post. LIC does not provide a re-examination or alternative medical board option in standard circumstances.
Is a CA qualification enough for AAO (CA) or do I need a degree too? Both are required. The AAO (CA) post requires a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university AND Associate Membership of ICAI (having cleared CA Final). CA qualification alone without a degree does not qualify, and a degree alone without CA membership also does not qualify.
Which OBC certificate is valid for LIC AAO? Only OBC certificates from the Central List of OBCs maintained by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment are valid. State-issued OBC certificates not aligned with the Central List are not accepted for LIC AAO.
