The SBI Clerk application process is the mandatory first step toward joining the State Bank of India as a Junior Associate. Conducted entirely online through the official SBI Careers portal at sbi.co.in/web/careers, the application window for the 2026 cycle is expected to open in July or August 2026 alongside the official notification and remain active for approximately 21 days. Every year, a significant number of applications are rejected or candidates face disqualification at later stages because of errors made during the application stage - wrong photograph sizes, incorrectly typed names, invalid category selections, or failed fee payments.
This page provides a complete, step-by-step walkthrough of the SBI Clerk 2026 application process with authenticated information from the 2025 cycle (Advt. No. CRPD/CR/2025-26/06), including document specifications, the handwritten declaration format, fee structure, exam centre selection guidance, the edit window policy, and admit card download steps.
Before applying, verify your eligibility using the SBI Clerk Eligibility Criteria page. For the complete examination overview, visit the SBI Clerk main page.

All SBI Clerk applications must be submitted through the official SBI Careers portal exclusively:
Portal URL: sbi.co.in/web/careers
Navigation path: sbi.co.in → Careers → Current Openings → Recruitment of Junior Associates (Customer Support and Sales) → Apply Online
Do not submit applications through any coaching institute portal, third-party recruitment site, or any link received via WhatsApp or email that is not the official SBI website. IBPS applications are at ibps.in - do not confuse the two portals. The SBI Clerk application portal is on sbi.co.in exclusively.
Gather all the following documents before opening the application form. Having everything ready prevents interruptions mid-form and reduces the risk of uploading incorrectly formatted files under time pressure.
The handwritten declaration is mandatory for all SBI Clerk applicants. The prescribed text as per the 2025 notification is:
"I, _______ (Name of the candidate), Date of Birth ______, hereby declare that all the information submitted by me in the application form is correct, true and valid. I will present the supporting documents as and when required. The signature, photograph and left-hand thumb impression is of mine."
Requirements for the declaration:
Visit sbi.co.in/web/careers and navigate to Current Openings. Click on the link for "Recruitment of Junior Associates (Customer Support and Sales)" for the 2026 cycle. Click "Apply Online" and then "New Registration."
On the new registration page, enter:
Click Submit. The system generates a Provisional Registration Number and Password, which are displayed on screen and simultaneously sent to your registered email and mobile. Save these immediately - they are your permanent login credentials for this recruitment cycle.
Critical: The name entered at registration must match your educational certificates exactly. Even a missing middle name, a different spelling, or an abbreviation discovered at document verification can create complications. Type your name from the certificate, not from memory.
After receiving the Registration Number and Password, log back into the portal. The system prompts for photograph and signature upload before the detailed form opens.
Upload the photograph first. The portal displays a preview after upload - verify that:
Upload the signature next. Verify the signature preview shows:
If either file does not meet the format or size requirements, the portal displays an error. Correct the file before proceeding. Do not proceed to the form if either upload is rejected - the form cannot be completed without valid uploads.
After uploading photograph and signature, log in again with your Registration Number and Password to access the main form. The form is divided into multiple sections:
Section A - Basic Details:
Section B - Personal Details:
Section C - Educational and Professional Details:
Section D - Exam Centre and Post Preference:
This is one of the most important sections of the SBI Clerk application. Candidates select:
Once submitted, the state and circle preference typically cannot be changed even through an edit window. Choose carefully and verify before saving.
After the main form is filled, the portal prompts for upload of the left thumb impression and the handwritten declaration. Upload both in the specifications described above.
The handwritten declaration is verified at the examination centre through biometric checks. A declaration that is typed, has the entire text in capital letters, is written by someone else, or is smudged beyond legibility will be flagged.
Before final submission, the portal displays a complete preview of all entered information and uploaded documents. This is the last opportunity to verify every detail before the application is locked.
Verify the following in the preview without rushing:
After verification, read the declaration statement at the bottom of the preview page and tick the agreement checkbox. Click Submit.
After successful submission, a system-generated Registration Slip with your application number appears on screen. Download it as a PDF and print at least one copy. This is proof of application submission and is needed throughout the recruitment cycle.
After submission, the portal automatically redirects to the fee payment page.
| Category Application Fee | |
| General | Rs. 750 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | Rs. 750 |
| EWS | Rs. 750 |
| SC | Nil |
| ST | Nil |
| PwBD (all categories) | Nil |
| Ex-Servicemen | Nil |
Payment methods accepted: Debit card, Credit card, Net banking, UPI (IMPS), Mobile wallets.
After successful payment:
Confirm the status shows "PAID" before closing the browser. If the status shows "Payment Pending" despite the amount being debited, wait 48 to 72 hours for automatic reversal. Contact your bank with the transaction reference number if the amount is not reversed. Do not make a duplicate payment without confirming the reversal of the first.
The application fee is non-refundable under all circumstances including non-appearance, exam cancellation, or candidature rejection.
After fee payment, download the complete application confirmation as a PDF from the portal. This document shows your application reference number, registration number, and basic submitted details. Print at least one copy and preserve it throughout the recruitment cycle.
SBI typically provides a limited edit window of approximately 5 to 7 days after the main application deadline closes. In this window, certain fields can be corrected.
Generally editable during the window:
Generally not editable under any circumstances:
Monitor sbi.co.in after the application deadline to check if an edit window is announced. Use it immediately if you notice any error, however minor. The edit window dates are usually announced only a day or two after the application deadline and remain open for a very short period.
This makes the Step 5 preview genuinely critical. A mistake in category or state that cannot be corrected in the edit window can invalidate the application at document verification stage, even after clearing both written examinations.
The Prelims admit card is released approximately 2 to 3 weeks before the Prelims examination. For the September 2026 Prelims (tentative), the admit card is expected in late August or early September 2026.
Steps to download:
Print a minimum of 2 copies. On the admit card, affix one recent passport-size photograph in the designated box before going to the examination centre.
Verify immediately after download:
If any detail on the admit card is incorrect, contact SBI through the official helpline on sbi.co.in. Do not arrive at the examination centre expecting the issue to be resolved at the venue.
Name mismatch: The name typed in the registration form must match the graduation certificate or Class 10 certificate exactly. Middle names matter. "Rahul Sharma" and "Rahul Kumar Sharma" are different names for verification purposes.
Blurry photograph: Many applications are flagged because the photograph resolution is too low after cropping or the face is not clearly centred. Use a high-resolution scan or a good phone camera in bright lighting.
Capital letters in handwritten declaration: The SBI notification specifically states not to use capital letters for the entire declaration text. Write in normal handwriting, not in all caps.
Wrong state selection: Candidates sometimes select the wrong Circle or State in the application, effectively applying for vacancies in a state they do not intend to work in. This cannot be corrected after submission. Verify carefully.
Late application: Centre allotment is first-come-first-served. Major cities fill up within 2 to 3 days of the window opening. Candidates who apply in the final 2 to 3 days before the deadline risk being assigned to inconvenient centres far from home.
Selecting OBC with state certificate: For SBI Clerk (a central government recruitment), the OBC certificate must align with the Central List of OBCs maintained by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. A state-only OBC certificate that is not on the Central List leads to disqualification at document verification.
Use the SBI Clerk Prelims Test Series on Aspirant Mitraa for full-length mock tests under strict sectional time conditions and the SBI Clerk Syllabus Tracker to confirm all topic areas are covered.
Can I apply for SBI Clerk in multiple states? No. SBI Clerk allows only one Circle and one State preference per application. You compete exclusively for vacancies in the state you select. A separate application cannot be submitted for another state in the same cycle.
Is the application fee refundable if I don't appear for the exam? No. The SBI Clerk application fee of Rs. 750 is non-refundable under all circumstances, including non-appearance, exam postponement, or candidature rejection.
Can I edit my application after the edit window closes? No. Changes are not permitted after the edit window closes. This makes verification during the preview step critically important before clicking Submit.
What is the handwritten declaration and why is it mandatory? The handwritten declaration is a self-attestation statement written by the candidate in their own handwriting confirming the authenticity of submitted information. It is used for identity verification at the examination centre and at document verification. A typed or computer-generated declaration is rejected.
I paid the fee but the application status still shows payment pending. What do I do? Wait 48 to 72 hours for automatic settlement. If unresolved, contact your bank with the payment transaction reference number. Do not submit a second application or make a duplicate payment before confirming the first payment's status.
Can I apply for SBI Clerk if I am in the final year of graduation? Yes. Final-year students may apply provisionally. If selected, they must produce proof of passing graduation by 31st December of the joining year (verify exact date from the 2026 notification). If the result is not available by that date, the selection is cancelled.
