The SBI Clerk notification is the official document released by the State Bank of India that formally begins the Junior Associate (Customer Support and Sales) recruitment cycle. Released annually on the SBI Careers portal at sbi.co.in/web/careers, the notification is the single most important reference document for every candidate planning to apply. It contains the total vacancy count, state-wise and category-wise vacancy breakdown, eligibility conditions, examination schedule, application process, fee structure, exam pattern, and selection process rules.
For the 2026 cycle, the notification is expected in July or August 2026, based on the 2025 pattern where the notification was released on 5th August 2025. The Prelims dates for 2026 have not been officially announced yet, but are expected in September or October 2026.
This page covers the complete SBI Clerk notification framework, the 2025 notification reference data, year-wise vacancy trends from 2017 to 2025, what the notification PDF contains section-by-section, how to download it, key changes introduced in 2025 that are expected to continue in 2026, and the action plan for aspirants immediately after release.

The 2025 notification (Advt. No. CRPD/CR/2025-26/06) provides the most reliable basis for 2026 expectations.

| Approximate Registered Candidates | 9 to 10 lakh |
The 2025 notification also specified that SBI Apprentices meeting eligibility conditions would receive 5 bonus marks in the Mains examination - a provision continued from previous cycles.
The vacancy count is the single most important number in the notification from a competition standpoint. Higher vacancies mean more selection opportunities and typically moderate the effective Mains cutoffs across states.
| Year Total Vacancies Notable Context | ||
| 2025 | 6,589 (5,180 regular + 1,409 backlog) | Significant contraction from 2024 |
| 2024 | 14,191 | One of the highest in SBI Clerk history |
| 2023 | 8,283 | Above-average cycle |
| 2022 | No recruitment conducted | SBI did not hold Clerk recruitment in 2022 |
| 2021 | 5,454 | COVID-affected cycle with delayed timeline |
| 2020 | No recruitment conducted | No SBI Clerk in 2020 |
| 2019 | 8,653 | Standard cycle |
| 2018 | 13,735 | High vacancy year |
| 2017 | 9,633 | Standard cycle |
The most striking pattern in this data is the gap years - SBI did not conduct Clerk recruitment in 2020 and 2022. These gaps mean the cycles that followed (2021 and 2023) absorbed pent-up vacancy demand from skipped years, often resulting in larger batch sizes.
The 2024 to 2025 vacancy contraction - from 14,191 to 6,589 - is the sharpest single-year decline in the data set. This directly contributed to the significantly higher Mains cutoffs observed in the 2025 cycle (Tamil Nadu Mains cutoff reaching 97.75 versus lower figures in 2024). When the same applicant pool competes for 54% fewer seats, the effective cutoff rises substantially.
For 2026 vacancy expectations: the figure will be driven by SBI's internal manpower requirements across its 22,000+ branch network. If SBI has managed to fill positions through the 2025 batch and does not face shortfall, the 2026 vacancy count may stay in the 5,000 to 8,000 range. If regional expansion plans or attrition require more recruitment, a larger batch similar to 2024 is possible. The notification is the only authoritative source for the 2026 count.
| Category Regular Vacancies Backlog Vacancies Total | |||
| UR (General) | 2,074 | 0 | 2,074 |
| OBC | 1,399 | 380 | 1,779 |
| EWS | 518 | 0 | 518 |
| SC | 778 | 627 | 1,405 |
| ST | 411 | 402 | 813 |
| Total | 5,180 | 1,409 | 6,589 |

The backlog vacancies represent positions from previous recruitment cycles that were not filled due to insufficient qualified candidates in reserved categories and are carried forward. SC and ST categories had a high proportion of backlog vacancies (627 and 402 respectively) in 2025, reflecting persistent shortfalls in filling reserved quota positions in certain states.
PwBD reservation is horizontal - a percentage of the total vacancies across all categories are reserved for persons with benchmark disabilities, as specified in the notification.
The official notification is a comprehensive document. Downloading and reading the full PDF - not a third-party summary - is strongly recommended before applying. Here is what each section covers:
Section 1 - Overview: Introduces the recruitment, confirms the post designation (Junior Associate - Customer Support and Sales), total vacancies, and selection process outline.
Section 2 - Important Dates: Application window, exam dates, and other schedule-related information. This section should be the first to read after downloading.
Section 3 - Vacancy Details: Total vacancies, category-wise breakdown, and state-wise or Circle-wise distribution. This section determines the competitive landscape for your state and helps in evaluating your preparation targets against historical cutoffs from the SBI Clerk Cutoff page.
Section 4 - Eligibility Conditions: Nationality, age limits with relaxations, educational qualification, language proficiency requirement, and the SBI Apprentice bonus marks eligibility conditions. Full eligibility details are covered on the SBI Clerk Eligibility Criteria page.
Section 5 - Selection Process: Describes the Prelims, Mains, and Language Proficiency Test stages, marking scheme, sectional time limits, and confirmation that there is no interview.
Section 6 - Exam Pattern: Section-wise question count, marks, and time allocation for both Prelims and Mains. Always verify this section in the current year's notification since IBPS Clerk revised its Mains pattern in 2025 and SBI could do the same in 2026. The current SBI Clerk Mains pattern (190 questions, 200 marks, 160 minutes, with Computer Aptitude in Reasoning section) is explained in detail on the SBI Clerk Exam Pattern page.
Section 7 - Application Process: Step-by-step instructions for registration, form filling, document upload (photograph, signature, thumb impression, handwritten declaration specifications), fee payment, and exam centre selection. Full application guidance is on the SBI Clerk Application Process page.
Section 8 - Salary and Service Conditions: Starting pay, pay scale, allowances including leased accommodation, probation period, posting conditions (anywhere in India), and language proficiency test requirement. Full salary details are on the SBI Clerk Salary page.
Section 9 - General Instructions and Rules: Prohibited items at examination centres, conduct requirements, consequences of misconduct including debarment, and other exam-day rules.
Annexures: Certificate format for OBC, SC, ST, EWS, and PwBD categories; declaration formats; and other supporting document templates.

Step 3: Click the notification link titled "Recruitment of Junior Associates (Customer Support and Sales) - Advt. No. CRPD/CR/2026-27/XX."
Step 4: The notification PDF opens in the browser or prompts for download. Download and save it.
Step 5: Read the complete notification before beginning the application process. Do not rely exclusively on third-party summaries - specific conditions (age cut-off date, document requirements, SBI Apprentice conditions) may vary year to year and must be verified from the primary source.
Important: The notification is accessible on sbi.co.in throughout the application window and often beyond for download. It is available in English. SBI does not mail or email the notification to candidates.
SBI Apprentices who completed their training (engagement start date on or after 1st January 2022, one year of branch experience completed before registration deadline, satisfactory performance and completion of Trade Test and joint NSDC/BFSI-SSC certificate) receive 5 marks bonus in the Mains. This provision has been present across recent cycles and is expected to continue in 2026.
SBI Clerk continues to have no Group Discussion or Personal Interview at any stage. Final selection is based entirely on Mains examination performance. This is a core structural feature of the recruitment that has remained consistent across all recent cycles.
From 2019 onwards, SBI removed sectional cutoffs from the Prelims examination. Only an overall state-wise cutoff applies at the Prelims stage. This provision is expected to continue in 2026.
Candidates who cannot prove they studied the official language of their applied state as a subject in Class 10 or 12 must appear in the Language Proficiency Test conducted by SBI before joining. This condition has been present in all recent SBI Clerk notifications.
The handwritten declaration upload requirement was formalised in the application process across recent SBI recruitment cycles and is expected to continue in 2026.
The application window is open for only 21 days. Acting immediately after the notification release maximises your chances of securing a preferred examination centre and ensures no administrative mistakes due to last-minute rushing.
Step 1 - Download and read the full notification PDF on the release day. Verify eligibility conditions including age, qualification, and category certificate validity. Confirm the exam pattern matches what you have been preparing for.
Step 2 - Apply within the first 2 days of the window opening. Exam centre allotment is first-come-first-served within each city. Major cities - Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata - fill up within 2 to 3 days.
Step 3 - Have all documents ready before opening the form. Photograph, signature, left thumb impression, and handwritten declaration should be prepared and scanned before the application window opens.
Step 4 - Pay the fee immediately after form submission. The payment gateway closes at the same time as the application deadline. Technical failures in the final hours of any deadline are common with high-volume portals.
Step 5 - Intensify mock test practice. With Prelims approximately 5 to 7 weeks after the notification release, the post-notification window is the most critical preparation period of the cycle. Begin full-length mock tests daily using the SBI Clerk Prelims Test Series on Aspirant Mitraa. Complete the SBI Clerk Syllabus Tracker to confirm all topic areas are covered before the first full-length mock.
