The IBPS Clerk application process is the formal entry point to one of India's most widely-attempted banking examinations. Conducted entirely online through the official IBPS portal at ibps.in, the application process for the 2026 cycle (CRP CSA-XVI) is expected to open in August 2026 alongside the official notification and remain active for approximately 21 days. With over 30 lakh candidates registering for the IBPS Clerk examination each year, errors during the application stage - wrong category selection, blurry photograph uploads, incorrect personal details, or failed fee payment - create complications that candidates discover only at document verification, long after they have cleared the written stages.
This page provides a complete, step-by-step guide to the IBPS Clerk 2026 application process with authenticated information from the 2025 cycle (CRP CSA-XV), document specifications, handwritten declaration requirements, fee payment methods, exam centre selection guidance, and the correction window process.
Before applying, verify your eligibility using the IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria page. For the complete examination overview, visit the IBPS Clerk Prelims main page.

All IBPS Clerk applications must be submitted exclusively through the official IBPS portal:
Official Website: ibps.in
The direct application path is: ibps.in → Current Openings → CRP CSA-XVI (Clerk 2026) → Apply Online
Do not apply through any third-party website, coaching institute portal, or link received via social media or messaging apps even if it appears official. The only valid application link is from ibps.in. IBPS does not accept offline applications, postal applications, or applications through any other online channel.
You can only apply for one state. IBPS Clerk does not allow multi-state applications. Choose your state preference carefully during the application because it directly determines your eventual bank posting location.
Gather the following before opening the application form to avoid interruptions during the process:
Photograph specifications:
Signature specifications:
Left Thumb Impression specifications:
Handwritten Declaration: The handwritten declaration is mandatory for all IBPS Clerk applicants. The prescribed text is:
"I, (Name of the candidate), hereby declare that all the information submitted by me in the application form is correct, true, and valid. I will present the supporting documents as and when required."
This declaration must be:
Other items to keep ready:
Visit ibps.in and navigate to the IBPS Clerk 2026 application link under Current Openings. Click "Click here for New Registration."
On the registration page, enter:
After entering and confirming these details, click Save and Next.
What happens: The system generates a Provisional Registration Number and Password. These are displayed on screen and simultaneously sent to your registered email and mobile number via SMS. This is your permanent login credential for this recruitment cycle.
Save this Registration Number and Password immediately. Screenshot it, note it down, and save the email containing it. Every subsequent login to check application status, download admit card, or check result uses these same credentials.
Critical: The name entered at registration must exactly match your educational certificates - including spelling, middle name, and surname. A mismatch between the application and the graduation certificate discovered at document verification can lead to disqualification.
After registration, the portal prompts for photograph and signature upload before the main form opens.
Upload the photograph first. The portal displays a preview - verify that:
Upload the signature next. Verify that:
If either image fails the size or format requirements, the portal will display an error and prompt a re-upload. Correct the file before proceeding. Do not guess about image size - check the exact file size before uploading.
After uploading photograph and signature, log in using your Registration Number and Password to access the main application form. The form has multiple pages:
Page 1 - Personal Details:
Page 2 - Communication Details:
Page 3 - Educational Qualification:
Page 4 - Exam Centre and Preference:
After completing the main form pages, the portal provides fields to upload the left thumb impression and handwritten declaration. Upload both in the specifications described above.
The handwritten declaration upload is verified digitally and physically during biometric checks at the examination centre. An uploaded declaration that is typed, heavily smudged, or written by someone else is flagged and the candidature may be questioned.
Before final submission, the portal displays a complete preview of all entered information. This is the last opportunity to review everything before locking the application.
Verify the following without rushing:
After verifying, read the declaration at the bottom of the preview page. This is your formal declaration that all information is true and correct. Tick the declaration checkbox and click Submit.
After submission, the portal redirects to the fee payment gateway.
| Category Application Fee (2025 Reference, expected same in 2026) | |
| General | Rs. 850 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | Rs. 850 |
| EWS | Rs. 850 |
| SC | Rs. 175 (Intimation Charges only) |
| ST | Rs. 175 (Intimation Charges only) |
| PwBD | Rs. 175 (Intimation Charges only) |
Payment methods accepted: Debit card (all major banks), Credit card (Visa, Mastercard, RuPay), Net banking, UPI (IMPS), Mobile wallets, Cash cards.
After successful payment, a payment confirmation screen with a transaction reference number appears. Download and save the payment receipt. The application status on the portal updates to "PAID" - confirm this before closing the browser.
The application fee is non-refundable regardless of whether the candidate appears in the exam, the exam is cancelled, or the candidature is subsequently rejected.
If payment fails but the amount is deducted, wait 48 to 72 hours for automatic reversal before attempting payment again. Contact your bank with the transaction reference number if reversal does not occur. Do not make a duplicate payment before confirming the reversal.
After successful fee payment, the portal generates a confirmation page with your Application Reference Number. Download this as a PDF and print at least one copy. This serves as proof of application throughout the recruitment cycle.
The confirmation page is not the admit card. It is a reference document. The admit card is released separately approximately 2 to 3 weeks before the examination date.
IBPS typically provides a limited correction window after the main application deadline. In the 2025 cycle, a separate edit window was provided after the application period closed.
During the correction window, candidates can edit certain fields such as:
What generally cannot be changed:
The correction window dates are announced on ibps.in when opened. Monitor the website after the application deadline to check if a correction window is available and use it immediately if any error was made.
The Prelims admit card is released approximately 2 to 3 weeks before the examination. For the October 2026 Prelims, expect the admit card in late September 2026.
Steps to download:
Print at least 2 to 3 copies. Carry one to the examination centre and keep the others safely.
Verify immediately after download:
If any detail is incorrect, contact IBPS through the official helpline immediately. Do not arrive at the examination centre expecting on-the-spot corrections.
Yes. IBPS Clerk allows only one state preference per application. Candidates cannot apply for multiple states simultaneously. This is different from some other banking examinations that allow multiple location choices.
Choose your state carefully. The state you select determines:
Once submitted, the state preference cannot typically be changed even during the correction window. Verify this from the official 2026 notification since rules can change year to year.
Name mismatch: The name in the application must match the graduation certificate exactly. Even a missing middle name or a spelling variation is flagged during document verification.
Wrong category: Applying as General when eligible for OBC means losing the benefits of OBC reservation. Applying as OBC with a state OBC certificate not aligned with the Central List leads to disqualification at document verification. Verify category eligibility before selecting.
Choosing wrong state: Since only one state can be chosen and changes are generally not permitted, selecting a state with very few vacancies relative to the applicant pool sharply reduces selection probability. Check the state-wise vacancy data from the IBPS Clerk Cutoff page before deciding.
Blurry or incorrectly sized photograph: Many applications are flagged for photograph quality issues. Use a good quality scanner or a high-resolution phone camera in good lighting. Check the file size before uploading.
Handwritten declaration errors: Typing the declaration and printing it, or having someone else write it, is a common mistake. Write it yourself, by hand, in English, on plain white unruled paper.
Applying too late: Centre allotment is first-come-first-served within each city. Candidates who apply in the final days of the window risk being assigned to inconvenient centres. Apply within the first 48 hours of the window opening.
After successful submission and payment:
The IBPS Clerk Prelims Test Series on Aspirant Mitraa and the IBPS Clerk Syllabus Tracker should be used intensively from the day you submit the application through to the exam date.
Can I apply for IBPS Clerk from any state in India? You can apply, but you must select only one state preference. IBPS Clerk does not allow multi-state applications. The state you choose determines your exam centre and eventual posting location.
Is the application fee refundable if I don't appear for the exam? No. The application fee is non-refundable under all circumstances, including non-appearance, exam cancellation, or candidature rejection for any reason.
Can I make changes to my IBPS Clerk application after submission? Limited changes may be possible if IBPS opens a correction window after the main application deadline. Basic details entered at registration (name, date of birth) generally cannot be changed. Check ibps.in after the application window closes for any correction facility announcement.
Is Aadhaar mandatory for IBPS Clerk application? No. Providing Aadhaar details is optional for the IBPS Clerk 2026 application. Candidates can choose whether to enter their Aadhaar number. However, a valid photo identity document must be produced at the exam centre.
What happens if I submit the form twice? IBPS considers only the last complete application submitted. All fees paid for previous applications are forfeited. Do not submit multiple applications.
Can I apply using a smartphone? Yes. IBPS's portal is accessible on smartphones. For better navigation, open the browser settings, select "Desktop site" mode, and set the screen to landscape orientation. The form should then display similar to the desktop version.
