The RRB NTPC application process is completed entirely online through the regional Railway Recruitment Board websites. Unlike IBPS or SSC, which have a single centralised portal, RRB NTPC applications are submitted separately to the regional RRB of the zone a candidate wishes to apply to. For the 2026 cycle, the application for Graduate-level posts (CEN 06/2025) opened on October 21, 2025, and closed on November 27, 2025. The application for Undergraduate-level posts (CEN 07/2025) opened on October 28, 2025, and closed on December 4, 2025. Both windows are now closed.
This page serves two purposes. For candidates who missed the 2026 application window and are preparing for the next cycle, it provides a complete understanding of the process. For candidates who have applied and want to understand what comes next, it covers the complete post-application timeline and document requirements for later stages.
| Level Application Window Status | ||
| Graduate (CEN 06/2025) | October 21 to November 27, 2025 | Closed |
| Undergraduate (CEN 07/2025) | October 28 to December 4, 2025 | Closed |
If you applied within these windows, your candidature is active. If you missed the window, the next RRB NTPC notification for the subsequent cycle is expected in late 2026 or early 2027 based on historical patterns.
Before walking through the application steps, understanding the zone-based structure is essential.
RRB NTPC has 21 Railway Recruitment Boards across India. Each RRB manages recruitment for its respective zonal railway and associated production units. When a candidate applies, they apply to a specific RRB zone, and their shortlisting, result, and final appointment are managed by that zone.
| Key Point Explanation | |
| One application per zone | Candidates apply to one RRB zone per CEN |
| Can you apply to multiple zones? | Only if the notification permits; some cycles allow multiple applications to different zones |
| Does zone affect cutoff? | Yes significantly; high-competition zones have higher cutoffs |
| Does zone affect posting? | Yes; selected candidates are generally posted within or near their zone |
| Which website to use? | The official website of the RRB zone you are applying to |
Choosing the right zone is one of the most strategic decisions in the entire RRB NTPC process. It directly affects the cutoff you will need to clear and the posting location after selection.
Candidates who are flexible about posting location should factor cutoff trends into their zone choice. Based on the 2025 CBT 1 cutoff data:
| Zone Category Examples 2025 UR CBT 1 Cutoff (Approx.) Strategy | |||
| Very High Competition | Chandigarh, Patna, Kolkata | 83 to 87 | Apply only if scoring 90+ in mocks |
| High Competition | Prayagraj, Guwahati, Mumbai | 82 to 85 | Apply if scoring 87+ in mocks |
| Moderate Competition | Bhopal, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru | 80 to 83 | Good option for most candidates |
| Lower Competition | Malda, Bilaspur, Siliguri | 75 to 80 | Best option for candidates scoring 82 to 88 |
A candidate from UP who typically applies to RRB Prayagraj (cutoff: 83+) may have a substantially higher clearance probability by applying to RRB Bhopal or RRB Ranchi (cutoff: 79 to 81), if they are willing to accept postings in that zone's coverage area.
Each zone has its own official website. Applications must be submitted only through these official sites.
| RRB Zone Official Website | |
| RRB Prayagraj (Allahabad) | rrbpryj.gov.in |
| RRB Mumbai | rrbmumbai.gov.in |
| RRB Chennai | rrbchennai.gov.in |
| RRB Bhopal | rrbbhopal.gov.in |
| RRB Chandigarh | rrbcdg.gov.in |

RRB NTPC features a unique partial-refund fee structure that makes the effective application cost low for most candidates.
| Category Fee Paid at Application Refund on Appearing for CBT 1 Effective Net Cost | |||
| General (UR) | Rs 500 | Rs 400 (after deducting bank charges) | Rs 100 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | Rs 500 | Rs 400 | Rs 100 |
| SC | Rs 250 | Rs 250 (full refund) | Rs 0 |
| ST | Rs 250 | Rs 250 (full refund) | Rs 0 |
| PwBD | Rs 250 | Rs 250 (full refund) | Rs 0 |
| Women (all categories) | Rs 250 | Rs 250 (full refund) | Rs 0 |
| Ex-Servicemen | Rs 250 | Rs 250 (full refund) | Rs 0 |
| Transgender | Rs 250 | Rs 250 (full refund) | Rs 0 |
| Minorities | Rs 250 | Rs 250 (full refund) | Rs 0 |
| Economically Backward Classes (EBC) | Rs 250 | Rs 250 (full refund) | Rs 0 |
The refund is credited electronically to the payment account within a few weeks of appearing for CBT 1. Candidates who register but do not appear for CBT 1 forfeit the entire fee. The refund policy is a strong incentive to ensure registered candidates actually appear, as the net cost of appearing is just Rs 100 for General/OBC candidates.

Candidates holding a graduation degree are eligible for both Graduate (CEN 06/2025) and Undergraduate (CEN 07/2025) levels. They can apply for both under separate CENs. This requires:
If selected in both processes, a candidate cannot hold two Railway positions simultaneously. They must join one. However, appearing in both gives two independent chances at Railway recruitment, which is a significant advantage.
Applying to the wrong RRB zone: Once submitted, zone selection cannot be changed. Research zone-wise cutoff trends before selecting.
Name mismatch with Class 10 certificate: The name in the application must exactly match the name on the Class 10 certificate. Any discrepancy causes complications at Document Verification. Use initials or full name consistently.
Uploading a photograph not meeting specifications: An oversized photograph, a photograph with a coloured background, or one that does not clearly show the face will be rejected during scrutiny.
Incorrect category selection: Candidates claiming OBC benefit must hold a valid OBC-NCL certificate in the Central Government format issued after April 2025. Selecting OBC without this certificate leads to disqualification at DV despite performing well in exams.
Using third-party or unofficial websites: RRB application portals are exclusively hosted on official RRB regional websites. Applications submitted through any other portal are not valid.
Not saving Registration Number and Password: These are required for every subsequent login including admit card download, answer key viewing, result checking, and scorecard download. Losing them creates significant difficulty.
Waiting until the last day: RRB application portal servers experience extremely high traffic near the application deadline. Last-day submissions risk failed uploads, payment failures, and missed deadlines.
After successfully submitting the application and fee, the following stages occur before the exam.
| Stage Approximate Timeline | |
| Application Correction Window | 3 to 7 days after closing date |
| City Intimation Slip | 10 days before exam |
| Admit Card | 4 days before exam |
| CBT 1 Exam | As scheduled on admit card |
| Provisional Answer Key | Within 1 to 3 weeks of exam |
| CBT 1 Result | 4 to 8 weeks after exam |
| CBT 2 Notification | With CBT 1 result |
RRB provides a correction facility for a limited period after the application deadline. In the 2026 cycle, the correction window for the UG application closed on December 16, 2025.
| Correctable Non-correctable | |
| Photograph (if technical issue) | Name |
| Signature (if technical issue) | Date of birth |
| Exam city preference (in some cycles) | Category |
| Some contact details | Post preference |
Name, date of birth, and category cannot be corrected after final submission. Candidates must verify these fields carefully before submitting.
Can I apply from my mobile phone? Yes. The regional RRB websites are accessible on mobile browsers. However, document upload and form verification are more reliable on a desktop or laptop.
What if the application fee payment failed? If payment was debited from your account but not reflected in the portal, wait 24 to 48 hours for the transaction to reconcile. If it does not appear, contact your bank for a transaction certificate and email the RRB helpdesk.
Can I edit my post preferences after submission? Post preferences cannot be changed after the correction window closes. This is a locked field from the point of application submission.
Is Aadhaar mandatory for RRB NTPC? Aadhaar was made mandatory for biometric verification at the exam centre for the 2026 UG CBT 1 cycle. Candidates without an Aadhaar must link any other government ID for biometric purposes. Check the specific notification for the requirements of future cycles.
What happens to my fee if I am not selected? The application fee has no refund policy based on selection outcome. Only the CBT 1 appearance refund applies (Rs 400 for General/OBC after appearing, full fee for exempt categories). Final non-selection carries no additional refund.
Application process details are based on official CEN 06/2025 and CEN 07/2025 notifications published by regional Railway Recruitment Boards in October and November 2025. Application dates and fee structures are as specified in the official CEN PDFs. The correction window closing date of December 16, 2025 for the UG level is as per official RRB notification.
