| Step Action | |
| 1 | Identify your preferred RRB zone (apply based on the zone where you want to be posted) |
| 2 | Visit the regional RRB website (e.g., rrbcdg.gov.in for Chandigarh, rrbchennai.gov.in for Chennai) |
| 3 | Look for the CEN 06/2025 or CEN 07/2025 notification link on the homepage |
| 4 | Click the notification link; the PDF will open or download |
| 5 | Save the PDF and read the full document before applying |
A list of all 21 RRB regional websites is available on the Indian Railways official website at indianrailways.gov.in. The most commonly referenced zones include RRB Allahabad (rrbpryj.gov.in), RRB Bhopal (rrbbhopal.gov.in), RRB Mumbai (rrbmumbai.gov.in), RRB Chandigarh (rrbcdg.gov.in), and RRB Chennai (rrbchennai.gov.in).
The application fee for RRB NTPC 2026 is unique compared to other government exams because of the partial refund structure.
| Category Fee Paid Refund on Appearing in CBT 1 Net Cost | |||
| General and OBC | Rs 500 | Rs 400 (after bank charges) | Rs 100 |
| SC, ST, PwBD, Women, Ex-Servicemen, Transgender, Minorities, EBC | Rs 250 | Rs 250 (full refund) | Rs 0 |
The refund is processed electronically to the account from which the fee was originally paid, after the candidate appears for CBT 1. Candidates who register but do not appear for CBT 1 forfeit the full fee. Candidates who appear receive the refund regardless of their performance in the exam.
This refund structure means that the effective cost of attempting RRB NTPC CBT 1 is Rs 100 for General/OBC candidates and Rs 0 for reserved categories, making it one of the most accessible government exams from a financial standpoint.
Comparing the 2026 notification with the previous CEN 05/2024 cycle reveals several important changes.
| Aspect CEN 05/2024 (Previous) CEN 06/2025 and 07/2025 (2026 Cycle) | ||
| Total Vacancies | 11,558 (Graduate + UG) | 8,868 (Graduate + UG) |
| Graduate Vacancies | 8,113 | 5,810 |
| UG Vacancies | 3,445 | 3,058 |
| Notification Format | Single combined CEN | Two separate CENs (06 and 07) |
| Aadhaar at Centre | Recommended | Mandatory (2026 UG cycle) |
| OBC Certificate validity | After a specified date | After April 1, 2025 (for 2026 cycle) |
The total vacancy count in 2026 is significantly lower than the previous cycle's 11,558. This reflects year-on-year variation in departmental requirements. The lower vacancy count increases competition at the CBT 2 shortlisting stage, making CBT 1 scores (for shortlisting) and CBT 2 scores (for merit) more competitive.
Both CEN 06/2025 and CEN 07/2025 notifications explicitly state that normalisation will be applied across all CBT stages. The notification describes the normalisation formula used.
The formula adjusts marks across shifts by considering:
This ensures that candidates assigned to easier or harder shifts are not advantaged or disadvantaged. All shortlisting and merit decisions are based on normalised marks, not raw marks.
Candidates should note that a raw score of, for example, 70 in a difficult shift may normalise to 73 or higher, while a 70 in an easy shift may normalise to 67. Targeting a comfortable buffer above the expected cutoff (rather than aiming exactly at the cutoff) accounts for this variation.
The notification defines a multi-stage selection process. Understanding the full process helps candidates set realistic expectations and prepare for what comes after CBT 1.
| Stage Shortlisting Ratio Nature | ||
| CBT 1 | 20 times the number of vacancies shortlisted per post | Qualifying; marks not in final merit |
| CBT 2 | Based on vacancies; merit-determining | Marks count in final merit |
| CBAT (Station Master) | Qualifying for this post only | No marks in merit |
| TST (Typing posts) | Qualifying; typing speed threshold | No marks in merit |
| Document Verification | All CBT 2 shortlisted candidates | Mandatory |
| Medical Examination | All DV-passed candidates | Qualifying |
The shortlisting ratio of 20 times the vacancies for CBT 1 means that for Graduate posts with 5,810 vacancies, approximately 1,16,200 candidates are shortlisted for CBT 2 from CBT 1. The actual CBT 2 shortlisting ratio may be adjusted by RRB based on the number of candidates who appeared and the distribution of scores.
What is the difference between CEN 06/2025 and CEN 07/2025? CEN 06/2025 is the notification for Graduate-level posts (5,810 vacancies) requiring a graduation degree. CEN 07/2025 is the notification for Undergraduate-level posts (3,058 vacancies) requiring Class 12 pass. Both are for the 2026 recruitment cycle.
Can I apply for both CEN 06/2025 and CEN 07/2025? Yes. If you hold a graduation degree, you are eligible for both Graduate and UG level posts. You must apply separately for each through the respective CEN's application process. A single application covers all posts within one CEN.
When was the RRB NTPC 2026 notification released? CEN 06/2025 was released on October 20, 2025, and CEN 07/2025 was released on October 27, 2025, on regional RRB websites.
Where can I download the official notification PDF? From the regional RRB website corresponding to your zone. Visit indianrailways.gov.in for a list of all 21 regional RRB websites and their URLs.
Will there be another RRB NTPC notification in 2026? The 2026 cycle is covered by CEN 06/2025 and CEN 07/2025. The next NTPC recruitment notification (for the 2027 cycle) would typically be released in late 2026 or early 2027 based on historical patterns.
Is there an interview stage in RRB NTPC 2026? No. There is no interview stage in the RRB NTPC selection process. The final merit is based on CBT 2 normalised marks only (subject to CBAT and TST qualifying status for applicable posts).
Both Graduate and Undergraduate CBT 1 exams are either recently completed or actively ongoing in 2026. If the UG CBT 1 (May to June 2026) is upcoming for your cycle, now is the time for focused final-stage preparation.
