The SSC CGL cutoff is the minimum score a candidate must secure at each stage of the exam to advance to the next round or secure final selection. Understanding cutoff trends helps candidates set realistic score targets, plan preparation intensity, and make informed post preferences. This page covers the official cutoff marks from 2023 to 2025, factors that influence the cutoff each year, and what candidates targeting the 2026 exam should aim for.
The cutoff is the score of the last selected candidate in a particular category and post group. SSC releases separate cutoffs for:
Both are released in normalised scores because the exam is conducted across multiple shifts. The normalisation formula adjusts for variation in difficulty levels between shifts, ensuring all candidates are compared on a common scale.
SSC releases cutoff PDFs on ssc.gov.in along with the result notice for each tier. The cut-off document also states the total number of candidates who qualified in each category and post group.
The SSC CGL Tier 1 cutoff for 2025 was officially released on December 18, 2025, along with the Tier 1 result. The cutoffs below are normalised scores out of 200.
| Category Cutoff Marks (Normalised) | |
| Unreserved (UR) | 167.02 |
| EWS | 161.73 |
| OBC | 160.65 |
| SC | To be verified from official PDF |
| ST | To be verified from official PDF |
Total candidates qualified under List 1: 18,436
| Category Cutoff Marks (Normalised) | |
| Unreserved (UR) | 170.65 |
| EWS | 163.50 |
| OBC | 161.13 |
| SC | To be verified from official PDF |
| ST | To be verified from official PDF |
Total candidates qualified under List 2: 2,833
The Commission released a revised cutoff for posts other than JSO and Statistical Investigator Grade II, adding 60,609 more qualified candidates, bringing the total to 1,65,240.
| Category Revised Cutoff Marks (Normalised) | |
| Unreserved (UR) | 153.18 |
| OBC | 146.23 |
| EWS | 142.01 |
| SC | To be verified from official PDF |
| ST | To be verified from official PDF |
Note: More than 18 lakh candidates appeared for the SSC CGL Tier 1 examination in 2025, reflecting the intense competition for this exam.
The table below shows the Unreserved category cutoff for posts other than JSO and Statistical Investigator, which is the most commonly referenced benchmark.
| Exam Year UR Cutoff (Out of 200) Trend | ||
| SSC CGL 2023 | 150.04 | -- |
| SSC CGL 2024 | 153.18 | Increased |
| SSC CGL 2025 | 136.83 | Decreased |
The drop in 2025 cutoff compared to 2024 reflects factors such as the number of vacancies, normalisation methodology, and overall exam difficulty across shifts. The JSO and Statistical Investigator Grade II cutoffs, however, remain consistently higher than those for general posts.
The SSC CGL Tier 2 cutoff for 2025-26 was released on April 8, 2026, along with the Tier 2 result. The Tier 2 exam was conducted on January 18 and 19, 2026.
A total of 15,118 candidates secured marks at or above the cutoff and were declared qualified in the written examination. These candidates were shortlisted for the First Round of Tentative Allocation.
Post-specific Tier 2 cutoffs vary significantly. The AAO (Assistant Audit Officer) post consistently has the highest cutoff across all categories, followed by JSO and then general posts.
For the complete Tier 2 cutoff PDF, candidates can download it directly from ssc.gov.in under the Results section.
| Category Cutoff Marks | |
| Unreserved (UR) | 153.18 |
| OBC | 146.23 |
| EWS | 142.01 |
| Category Cutoff Marks | |
| Unreserved (UR) | 150.04 |
Several variables determine where the cutoff lands each year. Candidates cannot control these factors, but understanding them helps in setting a realistic preparation target.
| Factor How It Affects the Cutoff | |
| Number of vacancies | More vacancies generally push the cutoff down; fewer vacancies push it up |
| Number of candidates appearing | Higher participation usually raises competition and cutoff |
| Exam difficulty | A harder paper results in lower overall scores and a lower cutoff |
| Normalisation methodology | Shifts with easier papers may yield higher normalised scores, affecting the final distribution |
| Reservation policy | Separate cutoffs are maintained for each category; changes in reservation proportions affect category-wise cutoffs |
| Post preferences submitted | High demand for specific posts raises their respective cutoffs |
Since Tier 1 is qualifying in nature, the focus should be on clearing the cutoff comfortably rather than maximising marks. However, targeting too close to the cutoff is risky because shifts vary in difficulty and normalisation can sometimes work against candidates.
A safe target for the UR category is a raw score of 155 to 165 out of 200. For reserved category candidates, targeting 130 to 150 provides a comfortable buffer above historical cutoffs.
The most effective way to know where you stand is to take full-length mock tests regularly under timed conditions. The SSC CGL Tier 1 Test Series on Aspirant Mitraa includes 400 tests covering topic-wise, subject-wise, and full mock tests, helping candidates assess their readiness accurately before the actual exam.
Cutoffs are not published as a separate document. They are embedded within the result notice PDF.
Candidates often confuse three different benchmarks when planning preparation.
| Benchmark Meaning Approximate Range (UR, Other Posts) | ||
| Cutoff Score | Minimum marks to qualify Tier 1 | Around 136 to 154 (varies by year) |
| Safe Score | Score that makes Tier 2 appearance almost certain | Around 155 to 165 |
| Good Score | Score that demonstrates competitive preparation | Above 165 |
A good Tier 1 score also matters psychologically because candidates who perform well in Tier 1 often carry better preparation momentum into Tier 2.
When will the SSC CGL Tier 1 Cutoff 2026 be released? The Tier 1 cutoff will be released along with the Tier 1 result, which is expected a few months after the exam concludes. The exact date will depend on when the 2026 Tier 1 exam is conducted.
Are cutoff marks the same as the marks needed for final selection? No. The Tier 1 cutoff only qualifies candidates for Tier 2. The Tier 2 result and final merit list determine post allocation. Candidates must check the Tier 2 cutoff separately.
Does normalisation affect every candidate? Yes. Since the exam is conducted in multiple shifts, all raw scores are normalised before the cutoff is determined. Some candidates score higher in normalised scores than their raw score; others score lower, depending on the difficulty of their shift.
Is the cutoff different for each post? Yes. SSC publishes separate cutoffs for JSO, Statistical Investigator Grade II, AAO, and all other posts. The cutoff for AAO is the highest.
Cutoff data on this page is sourced from official SSC result notices published at ssc.gov.in. The 2026 cutoff will be updated here as soon as it is officially released.
