The eligibility criteria for CA Final are the most layered of all three CA levels. Unlike CA Foundation and CA Intermediate, where eligibility depends primarily on educational qualifications and a study period, CA Final eligibility depends on multiple conditions: completion of both Intermediate groups, completion of the Articleship training period, completion of Advanced ICITSS, and qualification of Self-Paced Online Modules (SPOM). The specific requirements vary based on when a candidate cleared CA Intermediate and which scheme they followed.
This page covers every eligibility condition precisely, with category-wise breakdowns and session-specific cut-off dates.

Every candidate appearing for CA Final must satisfy all of the following conditions:
| Condition Requirement | |
| 1. CA Intermediate | Both Group I and Group II must be passed |
| 2. Articleship | Two-year Practical Training (new scheme) or three-year (old scheme) must be completed or in the final six months |
| 3. Advanced ICITSS | Must be completed before the exam (or before membership application for some transition candidates) |
| 4. SPOM | Relevant sets (A, B, C, D) must be qualified as applicable |
| 5. CA Final Registration | Must be registered for the CA Final course with ICAI |
Both groups of CA Intermediate must be cleared before a candidate can appear for CA Final. Passing only one group is not sufficient. Under the new scheme, the Articleship itself cannot begin until both groups are cleared, so this condition is structurally linked to the Articleship requirement.
Candidates who were on the old scheme and cleared Intermediate groups under the old format (IPCC or IIPCE) are also eligible for CA Final, subject to the transition route applicable to their situation.
Candidates who cleared both CA Intermediate groups under the new scheme must complete a two-year Practical Training (Articleship) under a practicing Chartered Accountant.
Full eligibility (two-year Articleship completed): Candidates who have completed the entire two-year Articleship before the exam month are fully eligible.
Provisional eligibility (in final six months): Candidates who are in the final six months of their two-year Articleship as of the first day of the exam month are eligible to appear provisionally, provided they will complete the Articleship within six months of the exam.
| Session Articleship Must Be Completed By Or In Final Six Months As Of | ||
| May 2026 | 30 April 2026 | 1 May 2026 (completing by October 2026) |
| November 2026 | 31 October 2026 | 1 November 2026 (completing by April 2027) |
Candidates on the old scheme must complete three years of Articleship. The same provisional eligibility rule applies: candidates in the final six months of their three-year Articleship as of the first day of the exam month are eligible to appear.
Advanced ICITSS (Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills) is a mandatory training programme that must be completed before appearing for CA Final or before applying for ICAI membership (depending on the candidate's route).
| Component Duration Fee (Approx.) | ||
| Advanced Information Technology Training | 15 working days | Rs. 7,500 |
| Management and Communication Skills (MCS) | 15 working days | Rs. 7,500 |
Both components are conducted at ICAI regional offices, branches, or accredited institutions. They can be completed in either sequence.
| Candidate Category Requirement | |
| New scheme candidates (cleared both Inter groups after November 2023) | Must complete Advanced ICITSS before appearing for CA Final exam |
| Transition candidates (cleared one or both groups up to November 2023) | Must complete Advanced ICITSS before applying for ICAI membership (not mandatory before the exam itself for certain categories) |
The specific requirement applicable to each candidate's session is specified in the ICAI eligibility circular published before each CA Final session. Candidates should verify from the official circular for their specific attempt.
SPOM consists of four sets of online learning modules available on the ICAI Digital Learning Campus portal. Each set covers a specific professional domain and includes an online test component (SPMT: Self-Paced Module Test).
| Set Module Subject Matter | ||
| A | Governance, Risk and Ethics | Corporate governance, enterprise risk management, ethics in business |
| B | Financial Services and Capital Markets | Investment banking, securities markets, portfolio management |
| C | Global Financial Reporting Standards (GFRS) | IFRS, Ind AS, international convergence |
| D | Multidisciplinary Case Study | Case-based integration across CA Final subjects |
The SPOM requirement varies based on when the candidate cleared CA Intermediate:
| Candidate Category SPOM Sets Required Before CA Final | |
| Cleared both Intermediate groups after November 2023 (new scheme) | All four: Sets A, B, C, and D |
| Cleared both groups up to November 2023 and admitted to CA Final from May 2024 | Sets A and B (exempt from C and D) |
| Cleared both groups up to November 2023 with 2.5 years Articleship by April 2026 (May 2026) | Sets A and B (exempt from C and D) |
| Cleared one group up to November 2023 and the other under Unit Scheme between May 2024 and relevant session | Sets A, B, and additional sets as per specific ICAI criteria |
SPOM sets must be completed through the ICAI Digital Learning Campus at learningmedia.icai.org. Each set has prescribed learning hours that must be completed before the online module test.
Each SPOM set includes an online test (SPMT). The passing requirement for each test is 50 percent. There is no restriction on the number of attempts for each SPMT.
Even after meeting all eligibility conditions, a candidate must formally register for the CA Final course with ICAI. Registration for CA Final is a separate process from CA Intermediate registration.
Registration for CA Final can be done immediately after clearing both groups of CA Intermediate. There is no mandatory waiting period. The study period requirement for CA Final registration is eight months from the date of registration before the exam, similar to CA Intermediate.
| Session Last Date to Register (8-month requirement) | |
| May 2026 | 1 September 2025 |
| November 2026 | 1 March 2026 |
Candidates who registered for CA Final before September 2025 are eligible for the May 2026 session, provided all other conditions (Articleship, Advanced ICITSS, SPOM) are also met.
A candidate is eligible for the May 2026 session if:
A candidate is eligible for the November 2026 session if:
A significant number of CA students were on the old scheme (eight papers) and are transitioning to the new scheme (six papers). ICAI has published specific circulars addressing the eligibility and transition process for these candidates.
Key points for transition candidates:
ICAI does not prescribe any minimum or maximum age limit for CA Final. The eligibility conditions are entirely based on training completion, academic qualification, and module requirements rather than age.
Before submitting the exam form for any CA Final session, verify each of the following:
| Item Verified? | |
| Both groups of CA Intermediate passed | |
| Articleship period completed or in final six months | |
| Advanced ICITSS (Advanced IT + MCS) completed | |
| Required SPOM sets (A, B, C, D as applicable) qualified | |
| CA Final course registration completed at least 8 months before exam | |
| Exam form submitted within the open window |
Can I appear for CA Final while still completing Articleship? Yes, but only if you are in the final six months of your Articleship as of the first day of the exam month. Full completion of the two-year Articleship period by 30 April (May session) or 31 October (November session) is the cleaner route.
Is Advanced ICITSS the same as the ICITSS done before starting Articleship? No. They are separate. The ICITSS done before Articleship (IT Training + Orientation Programme, four weeks total) is a pre-Articleship requirement. Advanced ICITSS (Advanced IT Training + Management and Communication Skills, 30 days total) is a pre-CA Final requirement.
What happens if I do not complete SPOM before appearing for CA Final? For new scheme candidates who cleared both Intermediate groups after November 2023, SPOM sets A, B, C, and D must be qualified before appearing for CA Final. Appearing without completing the required SPOM sets makes the candidature ineligible.
Can I register for CA Final even before completing Articleship? Yes. CA Final registration can be done immediately after clearing both Intermediate groups. The eight-month study period begins from the registration date. Articleship completion, SPOM, and Advanced ICITSS must be in place by the relevant exam month, not necessarily at the time of registration.
What is the registration validity for CA Final? Five years from the date of registration, consistent with CA Intermediate. Revalidation is available after expiry.
