Given the fully subjective nature of CA Final, reviewing answer scripts is one of the most valuable learning activities for candidates who did not pass. It reveals exactly how close written answers came to the ICAI-expected format and depth, which is critical information for the next attempt.
Clearing both groups of CA Final with the Articleship completed is the threshold for ICAI membership.
Conditions for ICAI Membership:
How to Apply for ICAI Membership:
After ICAI processes the application, a Membership Number is issued. The candidate becomes an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) and may use the designation "CA" after their name.
ACA vs FCA:
| Membership Type Eligibility Designation | ||
| Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) | Upon clearing CA Final + Articleship; up to 5 years of experience | CA [Name], ACA |
| Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) | ACA with minimum 5 years of continuous membership | CA [Name], FCA |
Group I is permanently exempt. For the next session:
Group II is permanently exempt. For the next session:
Both groups must be reattempted. No exemption applies. Review the scorecard to identify whether failures were caused by:
Obtain certified copies of the papers where marks were lowest. At the CA Final level, the investment in reviewing answer scripts is worth every rupee of the Rs. 500 per paper fee because the subject matter is so complex that self-diagnosis without the actual scripts is often insufficient.
Upon admission to ICAI membership, the individual becomes part of one of the largest and most respected professional accounting bodies in the world. ICAI membership confers:

How long after the exam is the result declared? ICAI typically declares the CA Final result 45 to 60 days after the last exam day. For the January 2026 session (last exam 21 January 2026), the result was declared in March 2026.
Does passing both CA Final groups automatically make me a Chartered Accountant? Passing both groups is one of two conditions. The other is completing the two-year Articleship. Both must be satisfied before ICAI membership can be applied for. Candidates who pass both Final groups but have not completed Articleship must wait until Articleship is done.
Can I apply for ICAI membership before the Articleship end date? No. Articleship must be fully completed before the membership application is submitted. Applying before the Articleship end date without completion of the full period is not accepted.
How long does ICAI take to process the membership application? Typically two to four weeks from the date of complete application submission. ICAI verifies all documents before granting membership.
Can the CA Final result be used for employment before ICAI membership is granted? Yes. The CA Final pass result and scorecard serve as proof of clearing the examination. Many employers confirm employment offers based on the result before the formal membership is processed.
Is there a difference between the scorecard and the pass certificate? Yes. The scorecard shows paper-wise marks and qualifying status. The pass certificate is a separate formal document issued by ICAI confirming CA Final clearance. It is required for membership application and is available from eservices.icai.org after the result.
