The CA Final notification is the official document released by ICAI for each examination session. It is the authoritative source for exam dates, registration cut-off deadlines, exam form submission windows, eligibility conditions, taxation amendment applicability, and Advanced ICITSS and SPOM requirements for that specific session. Unlike Foundation and Intermediate which have three sessions per year, the CA Final is held only twice a year in May and November, making each notification significantly more consequential.
Missing any deadline communicated through the notification means waiting six months for the next opportunity. This page covers all session-wise dates for 2026, what each ICAI circular contains, and how to plan around the annual CA Final examination calendar.

CA Final is conducted twice annually, unlike Foundation and Intermediate which now have three sessions per year. This two-session structure has been in place consistently and continues under the new scheme.
| Session Approximate Exam Period | |
| May Session | First to third week of May |
| November Session | First to third week of November |
With only two opportunities per year, each session carries significantly more weight for candidates than the three-session cycle at Foundation and Intermediate levels. Preparation planning, eligibility verification, and application submission must all be aligned to these two windows.

One of the most important supplementary documents released alongside or shortly after the main CA Final notification is the Taxation Amendment Circular. This circular specifies:
For May 2026, the notification specified that Income Tax questions are answered for Assessment Year 2026-27, incorporating Finance Act 2025 provisions. GST amendments up to 31 October 2025 were applicable.
Candidates who study Paper 4 and Paper 5 without downloading and reading the Taxation Amendment Circular for their specific session risk preparing based on outdated provisions, which is a common cause of underperformance in these papers.
Similarly, ICAI releases a circular specifying which version of Ind AS is applicable for Paper 1 (Financial Reporting) in each session. This is important because:
Always download and read the Accounting Standards Applicability Circular before starting Paper 1 preparation.
ICAI releases a separate or embedded circular specifying exactly which materials candidates are permitted to carry into the Paper 6 (IBS) examination. Based on the May 2026 and January 2026 sessions, the permitted materials included:
What was NOT permitted in past IBS sessions:
The permitted materials list is confirmed fresh for each session. Do not assume the same list applies from one session to the next without verifying the current session's circular.

| September | Registration cut-off for May 2027 session (1 September) |
| October | Admit card for November session |
| November | November session exam |
| December to January | Result for November session |
Given the consequences of missing deadlines in a two-session annual calendar, these three are the most important.
An eight-month study period is mandatory before appearing. Registration must be completed by:
| Session Registration Must Be Completed By | |
| May 2026 | 1 September 2025 |
| November 2026 | 1 March 2026 |
| May 2027 | 1 September 2026 |
For new scheme candidates (both Intermediate groups cleared after November 2023), Advanced ICITSS must be completed and all four SPOM sets must be qualified before appearing for CA Final. The eligibility verification happens at the exam form submission stage. Not having these completed when the exam form window opens means the candidature cannot be submitted.
The exam form window is open for only two to three weeks per session. Missing both the regular deadline and the late fee deadline means losing that session entirely.
Unlike Foundation and Intermediate where most eligibility conditions are self-declared at the time of form submission, CA Final eligibility is more actively verified by ICAI's systems because of the Articleship, Advanced ICITSS, and SPOM requirements.
At the exam form stage, the portal checks:
Ensure that all training and module completion records are updated in the ICAI SSP system before the exam form window opens. The Articleship principal must update the Articleship records through their ICAI login. Advanced ICITSS completion is recorded automatically by the training centre.
The CA Final admit card is released approximately 10 to 15 days before the first exam day.

How many sessions does CA Final have per year? CA Final is held twice a year: in May and in November. This is different from CA Foundation and CA Intermediate which have three sessions per year since 2024.
Is the January CA Final session a permanent addition? The January 2026 session was a special interim session. As of the latest ICAI announcements, the standard schedule remains two sessions per year (May and November). Any additional sessions are announced through separate ICAI circulars. Monitor icai.org for official announcements.
When is the Taxation Amendment Circular typically released? The Taxation Amendment Circular is released one to three months before the exam. It is published simultaneously with or shortly after the main exam schedule notification.
Can I verify my SPOM qualification status on the ICAI portal? Yes. Log in to the ICAI Digital Learning Campus at learningmedia.icai.org to check SPOM completion and qualification status for each set.
What happens if the exam form window closes before I complete Advanced ICITSS? Candidates who have not completed Advanced ICITSS before the exam form window closes are not eligible to submit the exam form for that session. The next available opportunity is the following session's exam form window.
Where exactly are CA Final notifications published? All official notifications are published at icai.org under the Students > CA Final > Examinations section. The same notifications appear on the ICAI SSP portal and are communicated to registered students via email and SMS.
