Before applying for the NABARD Grade A examination, every candidate must verify that they meet all the eligibility conditions prescribed by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. NABARD has strict qualification requirements that vary by stream, and the minimum marks condition is applied uniformly. An application that does not meet these conditions is rejected at the verification stage, which can happen even after the exam is cleared.
This page covers every eligibility parameter for the NABARD Grade A 2026 recruitment in detail.

| Requirement Details | |
| Minimum Qualification | Any degree with minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwBD) |
| Preferred | Ex-military or ex-paramilitary background |
| Physical Fitness | Must be physically fit as per standards specified by NABARD |
A critical condition for all specialist streams (Agriculture, Finance, IT, HR, Rajbhasha, Legal, Engineering) is that the subject must have been studied as a major throughout all semesters of the degree. This means:
This condition is verified during document verification. Candidates whose documents do not clearly demonstrate the required major are disqualified at that stage.
The percentage of marks is calculated based on the aggregate of all semesters or years of the relevant degree. Where universities award CGPA/OGPA instead of percentages, the conversion is done using the university's prescribed formula.
If the university does not prescribe a conversion formula, NABARD applies the following standard: Percentage = (CGPA / Maximum CGPA) x 100.
Rounding off is not permitted. A CGPA that converts to 59.8 percent is treated as 59.8 percent, not rounded to 60 percent.
NABARD does not prescribe a maximum number of attempts for the Grade A examination. Candidates can apply for multiple recruitment cycles provided they meet all eligibility criteria (including age limit) in each cycle. The age limit is the primary constraint that limits the effective number of attempts for most candidates.
Candidates in the final year of their graduation or post-graduation can apply for NABARD Grade A provisionally, provided:
If the final result does not meet the minimum marks requirement, the provisional candidature is cancelled.
Candidates can apply for only one post or discipline under NABARD Grade A. If multiple applications are submitted within or across disciplines, only the last application submitted before the deadline is treated as valid. Candidates should ensure the stream chosen matches their academic qualification before submitting.
Choosing the wrong stream: Selecting the Agriculture or Finance stream without having the subject as a major in the degree is the most common eligibility error. Verify that the degree certificate explicitly mentions the qualifying subject.
Not checking the cut-off date: Some candidates calculate their age as of the application date rather than the official cut-off date. NABARD specifies a cut-off date in the notification; age must be calculated as of that date.
Incorrect percentage calculation: Using percentage for individual semesters rather than the aggregate of all semesters is a common error. NABARD uses the overall aggregate of all semesters/years.
Degree from an unrecognised institution: Degrees from universities not recognized by the UGC or from distance education programmes not approved for the relevant course are not eligible. Verify UGC recognition before applying.
Is an agriculture background mandatory for NABARD Grade A? Not for the General (RDBS) stream. The General stream accepts graduates from any discipline with 60 percent marks. The Agriculture stream specifically requires a degree with Agriculture or allied subjects as the major. Candidates without an agriculture background can and do qualify for the General stream.
Can a candidate appear for NABARD Grade A in a different stream than their degree subject? Only the General (RDBS) stream accepts graduates from any discipline. All specialist streams require the degree subject to match the stream applied for. A candidate with a B.Com cannot apply for the IT stream.
Is CA/CS/ICWA eligible for NABARD Grade A? Yes, for the General (RDBS) stream. CA, CS (Company Secretary), and ICWA (CMA) holders are specifically mentioned as eligible qualifications for the General stream without a separate percentage requirement.
What if the degree does not explicitly mention the marks as a percentage? Candidates whose degrees mention CGPA must convert using their university's official formula. In the absence of a university formula, NABARD uses the standard conversion: Percentage = (CGPA / Maximum CGPA) x 100.
Can a candidate with a distance education degree apply? Yes, if the distance education programme is from a UGC-recognized institution and the programme itself is approved by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB) of the UGC. Regular and distance mode degrees from recognized institutions are accepted on an equal basis.
