No fee refund is provided under any circumstances, including cancellation of the session, disqualification due to ineligibility, or withdrawal of candidature.
After fee payment is confirmed, the application form can be submitted. Before clicking submit, review every field, the uploaded photograph, and the signature. Once submitted, no changes can be made until the correction window opens.
After submission:
An application that does not have a generated Confirmation Page is considered incomplete and will be rejected.
NTA opens a correction facility for a limited period after the registration window closes. This window allows candidates to modify specific details in the submitted application.
| Correctable Fields Non-correctable Fields | |
| Photograph | Application Number |
| Signature | Email ID (after registration) |
| Category certificate | Date of Birth (in most sessions) |
| Paper 2 subject (in some sessions) | Name (after registration) |
| Exam city preferences | Fee paid (no refund or upgrade) |
| PwD status and certificate |
The correction window is typically open for two to four days. NTA issues a formal notice on the portal when the correction facility is activated. Candidates who realize an error after the correction window closes cannot make any further changes.
The Confirmation Page should be stored safely. It is required during the admit card download stage for cross-verification and may be asked for at the exam centre in certain cases.
The UGC NET admit card is released on the official portal approximately 10 to 15 days before the exam date. It is released separately for different exam dates within the same session.
| Information on Admit Card Details | |
| Candidate's Name | As registered |
| Application Number | Unique ID |
| Subject and Subject Code | Paper 2 chosen subject |
| Exam Date and Shift | Specific to each candidate |
| Exam Centre Name and Address | City and full address |
| Reporting Time | Typically 90 minutes before exam start |
| Important Instructions | Dos and don'ts for exam day |
Candidates must carry a printed copy of the admit card along with a valid photo ID proof (Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID, or Passport) to the exam centre. Digital or soft copies on mobile phones are not accepted at the gate.
For admit card download steps and exam day instructions, visit the UGC NET Exam Day Guidance page.
NTA processes lakhs of applications each session. The following mistakes are among the most common causes of application rejection or complications on exam day:
1. Entering marks incorrectly: The percentage entered in the application must match the official marksheet exactly. Rounding off marks upward to cross the 55 percent threshold when the actual percentage is below is treated as a false declaration.
2. Uploading a photograph that does not meet specifications: Photographs taken against coloured backgrounds, with glasses, or with low resolution are rejected during document verification.
3. Not downloading the Confirmation Page: Candidates who complete fee payment but do not download the Confirmation Page often find that their application status shows as incomplete during the admit card phase.
4. Choosing an incorrect exam city: Candidates should list four cities in genuine order of preference. NTA allots centres on a first-come, first-served basis within city quotas. Listing only one city increases the risk of being allotted a centre in a far-off location if the preferred city is full.
5. Applying with an expired category certificate: OBC-NCL and EWS certificates are valid for a limited period. Expired certificates lead to the application being treated as a General category submission, which may affect eligibility at the time of document verification.
6. Missing the fee payment deadline: Registration without fee payment is not valid. If the fee payment window closes and payment is pending, the application is automatically rejected.
Both the June and December sessions follow a broadly similar application timeline:
| Activity Approximate Timeframe | |
| Notification Released | April (June session) / October (December session) |
| Online Registration Opens | Same day as notification |
| Last Date to Apply | 3 to 4 weeks after opening |
| Fee Payment Deadline | 1 to 2 days after last application date |
| Correction Window | 3 to 5 days after fee payment deadline |
| Exam City Intimation Slip | Approximately 10 days before exam |
| Admit Card Released | 10 to 15 days before exam date |
| Exam Dates | June 22 to 30 (June session) / December 31 to January 7 (December session) |
| Result | 6 to 8 weeks after exam |
For the latest session-specific dates, visit the UGC NET Notification page.
Once the application is successfully submitted, focus shifts entirely to preparation. The following resources are available on Aspirant Mitraa to support the preparation journey:

Can the Paper 2 subject be changed after submitting the application? Changes to the Paper 2 subject may be allowed during the correction window, subject to the specific rules mentioned in the official notification for that session. After the correction window closes, no change is permitted.
What should a candidate do if the fee is deducted but the portal does not confirm the payment? Candidates should wait 24 to 72 hours for the transaction to reflect. If it does not, they should contact the NTA helpline at 011-40759000 or email ugcnet@nta.ac.in with the transaction ID and bank statement screenshot.
Can a final-year student apply even before completing the degree? Yes. Final-year postgraduate students can apply provisionally. They must complete the degree and submit proof within the prescribed period after the result.
Is there a limit on the number of times a candidate can apply for UGC NET? No. There is no restriction on the number of attempts. Candidates can appear for both the June and December sessions every year without any cap.
What happens if a candidate applies in the wrong category and gets a fee concession they are not entitled to? This is treated as a misrepresentation. The application may be cancelled at any stage, including after the result, if the category claimed does not match the documentary evidence.
