The CA Foundation notification is the official announcement released by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for each examination session. It contains the exam schedule, registration deadlines, exam form submission windows, and other procedural details that candidates must know before applying. Since the CA Foundation is now held three times a year, staying updated on the notification schedule for each session has become even more important.
This page covers all session-wise important dates, how to access ICAI notifications, what the official circular contains, and how to plan around the annual examination calendar.

From June 2024 onwards, ICAI expanded the CA Foundation exam frequency from twice a year to three times a year. The three sessions are:
| Session Month Approximate Exam Period | ||
| Session 1 | May / June | Second and third week of May |
| Session 2 | September | First and second week of September |
| Session 3 | January | Third and fourth week of January |
This change gives candidates more opportunities to clear the Foundation within their three-year registration validity and reduces the waiting period between attempts for those who do not pass in the first sitting.

The table below provides the complete annual examination calendar for the CA Foundation across all three sessions, based on the schedule pattern established since June 2024.
| Month Activity | |
| January | Session 3 exam (third and fourth week); Result for previous September session |
| February to March | Exam form window for May session; Result for January session |
| April | Registration cut-off for September session (1 May); Admit card for May session |
| May | Session 1 exam (second and third week) |
| June to July | Exam form window for September session; Result for May session |
| July | Registration cut-off for January session (1 September) |
| August | Admit card for September session |
| September | Session 2 exam (first and second week) |
| October to November | Exam form window for January session; Result for September session |
| December to January | Admit card for January session |
Of all the dates in the CA Foundation calendar, the following are the ones where missing the deadline has the most significant consequences:
Missing the registration cut-off date for a session means the candidate is ineligible for that session. They must wait four months for the next eligible attempt.
| Session Registration Must Be Completed By | |
| May 2026 | 1 January 2026 |
| September 2026 | 1 May 2026 |
| January 2027 | 1 September 2026 |
Registration is open year-round, but to count toward a specific session's four-month study period, it must be completed by these dates.
The exam form window is open for only a few weeks per session. Missing this deadline without a late fee means missing the session entirely. Even submitting with the late fee is limited to a short extension window.
The admit card must be downloaded and printed before the exam day. Candidates who try to download it for the first time on the morning of the exam frequently face portal issues due to heavy traffic. Download the admit card as soon as it is released.
For result checking and scorecard download steps, visit the CA Foundation Result page.
For a student who has just completed or is appearing in Class 12, the following planning framework helps use the notification calendar effectively.
The admit card is mandatory for entry to all four exam days. It is released on the ICAI SSP portal approximately 10 to 15 days before the first exam day.
Download Steps:
Details to Verify on the Admit Card:
| Detail What to Check | |
| Name | Matches ICAI registration exactly |
| Registration Number | Correct |
| Exam Centre | Address is clear and you know the location |
| Paper-wise Schedule | All four papers, dates, and timings are listed |
| Photograph | The one you uploaded |
Any discrepancy in the admit card should be reported to ICAI immediately. Do not appear at the exam centre with incorrect admit card details without first contacting ICAI.
How many days before the exam is the admit card released? The admit card is typically released 10 to 15 days before the first exam day. For the May 2026 session, admit cards were available from approximately 28 to 30 April 2026.
Where can I check if the notification for a session has been released? Visit icai.org and navigate to the "Students" section. The latest notifications and circulars appear on the homepage and in the dedicated Foundation section. ICAI also sends email and SMS alerts to registered students.
Can I register for the CA Foundation after the cut-off date and still appear in the same session? No. The four-month study period is a hard requirement. If you register even one day after the cut-off date, you are ineligible for the current session and must wait for the next one.
Is there a late fee for exam form submission? Yes. ICAI charges a late fee of approximately Rs. 600 for exam form submissions received after the regular deadline but within the late submission window. After the late submission window closes, no exam form is accepted for that session.
Can the exam form be submitted offline? No. The CA Foundation exam form submission is fully online through the ICAI examination portal at icaiexam.icai.org.
What if I submit the exam form but cannot appear on all four days? The exam form fee is non-refundable. Candidates who do not appear in an attempt lose that attempt and the exam form fee. The registration validity is not affected and they can appear in a subsequent session by submitting a new exam form.
