The CA Intermediate application process has two distinct stages that every student must complete in sequence: course registration with the ICAI Board of Studies and exam form submission for each specific session. These are separate processes with separate fees. Completing only one of them does not make a candidate eligible to appear in the examination. This guide covers both stages in full detail, including fees, documents, portal steps, common mistakes, and what to expect after each stage.

ICAI opens a correction window after the exam form submission period closes. This allows candidates to correct limited fields.
| Correctable Fields Non-correctable Fields | |
| Exam centre city | Name |
| Medium (in some sessions) | Date of birth |
| Group (adding a group not initially selected) | Registration number |
| Photograph | Exam form fee paid |
The correction window is open for a limited period of three to five days. Beyond this window, no changes are possible.
Candidates registering through the Direct Entry route must complete two additional steps before or alongside CA Intermediate preparation:
1. ICITSS Registration and Completion Register for the IT Training (15 days) and Orientation Programme (6 days) at a nearby ICAI branch or accredited centre. Both must be completed before the two-year Articleship begins.
| Component Duration Fee (Approx.) Conducted By | |||
| IT Training | 15 working days | Rs. 6,500 | ICAI accredited centres |
| Orientation Programme | 6 working days | Rs. 3,500 | ICAI regional offices and branches |
ICITSS can be registered for and completed at any time after CA Intermediate registration and before Articleship commencement.
2. Final Marksheet Submission Direct Entry candidates who registered with a provisional mark sheet (because their graduation result was pending) must submit the final mark sheet confirming the required percentage (55% for Commerce, 60% for Non-Commerce) to the ICAI regional office within seven days of the result being declared.
Confusing the eight-month registration cut-off with the exam form deadline: The eight-month cut-off is about when to complete course registration to qualify for a session. The exam form deadline is a separate, later date for each session. Both must be met independently.
Registering with incorrect academic marks: The marks entered for the CA Foundation or graduation degree during registration must exactly match the official mark sheet. Discrepancies can cause problems during result processing or certificate issuance.
Not downloading the registration acknowledgement: The acknowledgement contains the Registration Number, which is required for every future ICAI interaction including exam form submission, admit card download, and result checking.
Submitting the exam form for the wrong group: Candidates must select whether they are appearing in Group I, Group II, or both at the time of exam form submission. Selecting the wrong group cannot be corrected after the correction window closes.
Paying the exam form fee without completing the form: Proceeding to payment before verifying all fields may result in an incomplete submission. Complete and review all fields before clicking pay.
Using a parent's or sibling's email or mobile number: All OTPs, admit card alerts, result notifications, and ICAI communications go to the registered contact details. Using another person's details creates practical difficulties throughout the preparation journey.
| Event Timing | |
| Study material dispatch confirmation | Within 2 to 3 days of course registration |
| Physical study material delivery | 2 to 3 weeks after registration |
| Exam form acknowledgement | Immediately after fee payment |
| Admit card release | 10 to 15 days before first exam day |
| Exam dates | As per session schedule |
| Result declaration | Approximately 45 to 60 days after last exam day |
Begin preparation immediately after course registration. Use the CA Intermediate Syllabus Tracker to plan and monitor chapter-wise coverage across all six papers from day one.
Can a student who failed CA Intermediate reappear without re-registering? Yes. Course registration is a one-time process valid for five years. For each subsequent attempt, only the exam form (Rs. 3,300 for both groups or Rs. 1,700 for single group) needs to be paid again. Full re-registration is only required if the five-year validity expires.
Can the group choice (Group I vs Group II vs Both) be changed after exam form submission? Changes to group selection may be possible during the correction window in some sessions. After the correction window closes, no change is possible for that session.
Is it mandatory to appear in both groups simultaneously? No. Candidates can choose to appear in only Group I, only Group II, or both groups simultaneously. There is no rule requiring simultaneous attempts. However, clearing both groups faster reduces the delay in beginning Articleship under the new scheme.
What happens if I miss the exam form deadline? If the exam form is not submitted by the late fee deadline, the candidate cannot appear in that session. The next available session's exam form window must be used.
Is the registration fee the same for all states in India? No. Candidates from Jammu and Kashmir and the eight North-Eastern states (Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim) receive a 75 percent concession on the registration fee.
