The CA Intermediate result marks one of the most significant milestones in the Chartered Accountancy journey. Declared by ICAI on its official examination portal, the result determines whether a candidate has cleared Group I, Group II, or both, and opens the path to Articleship registration under the new scheme once both groups are cleared. This page covers how to check and download the result, what the scorecard contains, session-wise pass percentage data, the merit list, marks verification, and the action plan after the result.

ICAI releases the result simultaneously on two portals. Both portals carry the same information.
Step 1: Visit icai.nic.in or icaiexam.icai.org
Step 2: On the homepage, look for the link labeled "CA Intermediate Result [Session and Year]" in the Announcements or Results section
Step 3: Click the link to reach the result login page
Step 4: Enter your Roll Number (as printed on the admit card for that session)
Step 5: Enter your Registration Number (the unique ID from your ICAI course registration)
Step 6: Enter the CAPTCHA code displayed on screen
Step 7: Click Submit
Step 8: The result page displays group-wise marks, individual paper marks, aggregate for each group, and qualifying status
Step 9: Download and save the scorecard PDF
Step 10: Store the PDF in multiple locations (email, cloud storage, local hard drive)
At the time of result declaration, both portals experience extremely heavy traffic due to hundreds of thousands of candidates checking simultaneously. If the page does not load:
The result remains available on the portal for several months after declaration. There is no risk of the result disappearing if access is delayed on the day of announcement.
ICAI provides a result alert registration option:
ICAI sends an email notification when the result is declared. The actual scorecard must still be downloaded from the portal.

The group-wise pass percentage is declared by ICAI alongside the result. It represents the proportion of candidates who passed a specific group out of the total who appeared in it.
Pass percentages for CA Intermediate are consistently lower than for CA Foundation for three key reasons:
Greater syllabus depth: Each paper at Intermediate level requires significantly more conceptual depth and application than Foundation papers.
Higher first-attempt candidate proportion in May sessions: May sessions include many candidates who have recently passed Foundation and are attempting Intermediate for the first time. These candidates frequently underestimate the jump in difficulty.
Taxation complexity: Paper 3 with its annual amendment dependency has a consistent failure rate that pulls down Group I pass percentages in sessions where the tax computation question is complex.
ICAI releases a merit list alongside the result containing the names, marks, and ranks of the top 50 candidates nationally for CA Intermediate.
| Parameter Details | |
| Candidates Listed | Top 50 nationally |
| Selection Basis | Highest combined aggregate of both groups (if both cleared) |
| For Single Group Clearers | Merit list for that group separately |
| Prizes | Gold Medal (1st rank), Silver Medal (2nd), Bronze Medal (3rd), Certificates (4 to 50) |
ICAI publishes the merit list on the same result portal. Click the Merit List link on the result page to view the national rankings.

Register for Articleship immediately.
Under the ICAI New Scheme, both groups of CA Intermediate must be cleared before Articleship can begin. After clearing both groups, the next steps are:
Register for Self-Paced Online Modules (SPMs): During the two-year Articleship, students must complete four SPM modules before they can appear for CA Final. Register for SPMs through the ICAI portal as early in the Articleship period as possible.
Download the Intermediate pass certificate: The e-certificate is available on eservices.icai.org after the result. Save multiple copies.
Group I is now permanently exempt. No action is needed to protect this exemption; it is automatically recorded in the ICAI system.
For the next session:
Group II is permanently exempt. For the next session, submit exam form only for Group I (Rs. 1,700).
Focus on Papers 1, 2, and 3. Paper 3 (Taxation) historically has the highest failure rate in Group I. Request certified copies of Group I answer scripts and identify whether Taxation or Advanced Accounting caused the failure.
Both groups must be attempted again. No exemption applies.
Review scorecard to determine whether the failure was due to:
The answer to this question determines how to allocate preparation time in the next attempt. Obtaining certified copies for the papers that pulled the group below the threshold provides the clearest direction for improvement.

How long after the exam is the result declared? ICAI typically declares the CA Intermediate result 45 to 60 days after the last exam day. The January 2026 session result was declared in March 2026, approximately 45 days after the last paper on 23 January 2026.
Does passing Group I in one session automatically carry forward if I fail Group II? Yes. Group I exemption is permanent and does not expire within the registration validity period. Even if a candidate fails Group II multiple times, Group I remains exempt.
Can I recheck my marks if I believe totalling was incorrect? Yes. Apply for marks verification within 30 days of the result declaration. The fee is Rs. 100 per paper. Verification checks whether all answers were evaluated and totalling is correct.
Is the CA Intermediate e-certificate sufficient for Articleship registration? The pass result on the ICAI portal, along with your registration details, is used for Articleship registration through the SSP portal. The e-certificate serves as official proof and can be downloaded from eservices.icai.org.
If I clear both groups in different sessions, when can Articleship begin? Articleship can begin after both groups are cleared, regardless of whether they were cleared in the same session or in different sessions. The ICITSS completion certificate must also be ready before Articleship registration.
Does distinction in CA Intermediate have any practical benefit beyond recognition? Distinction (180 or above out of 300 in a group) is recognized on the ICAI merit list if the candidate ranks in the top 50 nationally. It is also a mark of academic achievement recognized by employers. Some CA firms actively recruit merit holders for Articleship positions.
