The IBPS PO application process is conducted entirely online through the official IBPS website at ibps.in. There is no offline mode and no agent or third-party application portal. Every candidate must register directly on the IBPS portal, fill the application form, upload the required documents, and pay the application fee within the window specified in the notification. A single application covers both the Prelims and Mains stages; there is no separate registration for each tier.
For the 2026 cycle (CRP PO/MT-XVI), the application window is expected to open with the notification release in June 2026 and close in July 2026. The Prelims exam is scheduled for August 22 and 23, 2026, per the official IBPS Annual Exam Calendar 2026-27.
This page provides a complete, step-by-step guide to the IBPS PO application process, document upload specifications, application fee details, bank preference selection, the correction window, and the most common mistakes candidates make during application.
| Event | Expected Date |
| Notification Release | June 2026 |
| Online Registration Opens | June 2026 (with notification) |
| Last Date to Apply | July 2026 |
| Fee Payment Deadline | Same as application closing date |
| Application Correction Window | 2 to 3 days after closing date |
| Prelims Admit Card | August 10 to 12, 2026 (approx.) |
| IBPS PO Prelims Exam | August 22 and 23, 2026 |
The notification will confirm exact opening and closing dates. Candidates are advised not to wait until the final few days to apply. IBPS servers experience heavy traffic near the deadline, and failed submissions close to the deadline cannot be re-attempted after the portal closes.
The application fee structure has been consistent across the last four IBPS PO cycles. The expected fee for CRP PO/MT-XVI is:
| Category | Application Fee |
| General / EWS / OBC (Male and Female) | Rs 850 |
| SC / ST / PwBD (all genders) | Rs 175 |
The fee is non-refundable under any circumstances, including withdrawal of application, non-appearance in the exam, or disqualification. Candidates must confirm eligibility before paying.
| Payment Mode | Details |
| Debit Card | Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, RuPay |
| Credit Card | Visa, Mastercard |
| Net Banking | All major bank net banking portals |
| UPI | BHIM, Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm |
| IMPS | Immediate Payment Service through mobile banking |
After successful payment, an e-receipt is generated. Candidates must save the e-receipt as proof of payment. The application is considered complete only after fee payment is confirmed.
Unlike SSC, IBPS does not require uploading multiple certificates at the application stage. Only four documents are uploaded during registration. Original certificates are required only at the time of document verification after final selection.
| Document | Format | File Size | Key Requirements |
| Passport-size Photograph | JPEG / JPG | 20 to 50 KB | Recent (taken within 3 months), light or white background, face clearly visible, no cap or sunglasses |
| Signature | JPEG / JPG | 10 to 20 KB | Signed in black ink on white paper, cursive style (not in block capital letters) |
| Left Thumb Impression | JPEG / JPG | 20 to 50 KB | Blue or black ink on white paper, clear impression |
| Handwritten Declaration | JPEG / JPG | 50 to 100 KB | Exact prescribed text, written by hand in English, black ink, white paper |
The handwritten declaration is a unique requirement in IBPS PO that many candidates overlook. The exact text is provided in the official notification. The declaration typically reads:
"I, (Name of the candidate), hereby declare that all the information submitted by me in the application form is correct, true and valid. I will present the supporting documents as and when required."
Write this text in your own handwriting on a plain white sheet, photograph or scan it against a clear background, and upload it within the specified file size.
Open ibps.in in a desktop or laptop browser. Mobile browsers can be used but desktop is recommended for uploading documents and verifying form entries accurately.
On the homepage, look for the banner or the recruitment section for "CRP PO/MT-XVI" or "Probationary Officers/Management Trainees 2026." Click on the Apply Online link.
If you are applying to IBPS for the first time, click "Click here for New Registration." Enter:
The system will generate a Provisional Registration Number and Password. Note these down immediately and save them securely. All future logins use these credentials.
Log in using the Provisional Registration Number and Password. The application form has multiple sections:
| Form Section | Fields |
| Personal Details | Name, father's name, mother's name, date of birth, gender, marital status |
| Contact Details | Address, PIN code, mobile, email |
| Educational Details | Class 10, 12, graduation: institution, year, percentage, stream |
| Category | General / OBC-NCL / SC / ST / EWS / PwBD / ESM |
| Identity | Aadhaar number (optional but recommended) |
| Exam Centre Preference | State and city for Prelims and Mains |
| Bank Preference | Rank order of participating banks |
Fill all sections carefully. Errors in name, date of birth, or category at this stage are difficult or impossible to correct after the correction window closes.
Upload all four required documents (photograph, signature, thumb impression, handwritten declaration) according to the specifications in the table above. Preview each uploaded document before proceeding to verify it is legible, correctly oriented, and within the file size limit.
A photograph where the face is obscured, too small, or against a busy background will be rejected. A signature in block capital letters is not accepted. Both errors can result in cancellation of candidature even after appearing in the exam.
On the bank preference page, arrange the 11 participating banks in your order of preference. This order is considered during final allotment. Candidates who rank higher in the merit list are more likely to receive their top-choice bank.
Give careful thought to bank preference based on:
This preference cannot be changed after the correction window closes. Once submitted, the bank preference order is locked.
After reviewing the complete form, proceed to payment. Select your preferred payment mode and complete the transaction. On successful payment, an e-receipt is generated and the application status changes to "Submitted."
After fee payment, submit the application form. Download the final application PDF and save it. This PDF serves as proof of application and may be required at any stage of the process.
IBPS provides a brief correction window of 2 to 3 days after the application closing date. During this period, candidates can edit limited fields in their application.
| Correctable Fields | Non-correctable Fields |
| Photograph (if rejected) | Name |
| Signature (if incorrectly uploaded) | Date of Birth |
| Exam centre preference | Category |
| Some personal details (as specified in notification) | Bank preference order |
Name, date of birth, and category are locked from the moment of first submission. Candidates who enter incorrect information in these fields and miss the correction window cannot rectify them. This has led to disqualification at document verification for candidates who claimed an incorrect category or had a name mismatch.
The correction fee (if applicable) will be specified in the 2026 notification. In some cycles, corrections in certain fields have required an additional payment.
Candidates can choose up to two exam centre preferences for Prelims and up to two for Mains (subject to availability). IBPS assigns centres based on preference and availability. If both preferred centres are fully allocated, candidates may be assigned an alternate centre.
Factors to consider when selecting exam centres:
| Factor | Why It Matters |
| Distance from home | Exam starts early; long travel increases stress and fatigue |
| Familiarity with the city | Navigation to an unfamiliar centre on exam day adds time pressure |
| Centre availability in your state | Popular centres fill up; applying early secures a preferred location |
Once the centre is assigned (visible on the admit card), it cannot be changed. Always verify the exact centre address on the admit card and visit it in advance if possible.
Selecting the right bank preference order is one of the most consequential decisions in the IBPS PO application, yet many candidates select preferences without adequate information.
Candidates are ranked by their combined merit score (Mains 80 percent, Interview 20 percent). Starting from the top of the merit list, IBPS allots banks based on preference order and available vacancies. Candidates ranked higher get their preferred banks; lower-ranked candidates receive whatever vacancies remain.
| Consideration Details | |
| Home state proximity | Banks with strong presence in your state increase the chance of a local posting |
| Vacancy count per bank | Banks with more vacancies have better allotment probability for mid-merit candidates |
| Service conditions | Loan facilities, housing assistance, and transfer frequency vary by bank |
| Financial performance | A bank's capital adequacy, NPA position, and growth trajectory affect job security and promotions |
Banks that typically announce the highest vacancies in recent IBPS PO cycles include Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, Canara Bank, and Union Bank of India. Candidates should not solely rank banks by reputation; availability and personal preference for posting location matter equally.
While only four documents are uploaded during the online application, the following originals and attested photocopies must be ready for document verification after final selection:
| Document Purpose | |
| Class 10 Marksheet and Certificate | Date of birth proof |
| Class 12 Marksheet | Academic record |
| Graduation Degree and All Marksheets | Qualification verification |
| SC / ST / OBC-NCL / EWS / PwBD Certificate | Category verification |
| Aadhaar Card | Identity |
| Valid Photo ID (PAN, Passport, Voter ID) | Identity verification |
| No Objection Certificate | If employed in government or public sector |
| Call Letters from All Stages | Proof of participation |
OBC-NCL certificates must be issued within one year of the application closing date. Certificates older than one year are not accepted.
Uploading a photograph not meeting specifications: A photograph with a coloured background, sunglasses, or poor resolution is routinely rejected. Recrop and resize photographs using free online tools before uploading.
Signing in block letters: IBPS explicitly requires a cursive-style signature. Block letter signatures are rejected. Practise your signature on plain paper before scanning.
Wrong category selection: Candidates who select OBC without a valid Non-Creamy Layer certificate, or claim EWS without an Income Certificate, face disqualification at document verification. Verify your category certificate format before selecting it.
Name mismatch: The name on the application must match the name on the Class 10 certificate exactly, including initials, spelling, and spacing. A mismatch creates document verification complications.
Selecting exam centre without checking location: Many candidates select a familiar city name without verifying whether the IBPS exam centre in that city is near a transport hub. Check the exact address and travel route before selecting.
Not saving the e-receipt and application PDF: These are the only proof of completed application. Losing them creates difficulty in case of any dispute about registration status.
Can I apply for IBPS PO from my mobile phone? Yes, ibps.in is accessible on mobile browsers. However, document upload and form verification are easier and more reliable on a desktop or laptop. If using mobile, ensure stable internet before beginning.
What if the payment fails after clicking submit? Log back into the IBPS portal. If the fee is debited from your bank but not reflected in IBPS, wait 24 to 48 hours. If it still shows incomplete, contact your bank for a transaction status certificate and email IBPS support with the details.
Can I change my bank preference after submitting the form? Bank preference can be changed only within the correction window after the application deadline. After the correction window closes, bank preference is locked permanently.
Is there a limit on the number of applications per candidate? No. A candidate can apply only once per cycle. Multiple applications from the same candidate are rejected, and the fee is forfeited.
What if I uploaded a wrong photograph? The correction window allows photograph re-upload. If the issue is discovered after the correction window, contact the IBPS helpline with your registration number and supporting documentation.
Application process details are based on the official IBPS CRP PO/MT-XV notification and established IBPS application procedures from ibps.in. Specific dates, fee amounts, and form fields for the 2026 cycle will be confirmed in the CRP PO/MT-XVI notification expected in June 2026.
