The IBPS PO 2026 selection process has four stages.
| Stage | Type | Marks | Contribution to Final Merit |
| Prelims | Computer-Based Test (Qualifying) | 100 | Zero |
| Mains (Objective) | Computer-Based Test (Merit) | 200 | 80% of combined score |
| Mains (Descriptive) | Online Essay and Letter Writing | 25 | Included in 80% |
| Personality Test | Qualifying (Mandatory from 2025) | -- | Non-scoring but mandatory |
| Interview | Merit-based | 100 | 20% of combined score |
The Personality Test, introduced from the 2025 cycle, is a mandatory stage between Mains result and Interview. Candidates who do not appear for the Personality Test are not eligible for the Interview. The Personality Test is non-scoring and does not affect the final merit ratio.
The final merit list is prepared on the basis of: Mains score (out of 225) multiplied by 80 percent, plus Interview score (out of 100) multiplied by 20 percent. This combined score determines both selection and bank allotment.
Every year, IBPS may update certain conditions in the notification. Candidates who appeared in previous cycles must read the 2026 notification carefully to spot any changes.
| Change Area | What Changed in 2025 | Expected in 2026 |

What is the difference between Probationary Officer and Management Trainee? Both posts are recruited under the same CRP process. Some banks designate the post as Probationary Officer while others call it Management Trainee. The roles, pay scale, and career trajectory are identical.
