The JEE Main result is not a simple marks list. It is a multi-layered document that determines JEE Advanced eligibility, drives the JoSAA counselling process, and establishes a candidate's standing among 15 lakh-plus aspirants. Understanding what every field on the scorecard means, how the NTA Score (percentile) is calculated, how normalisation works across multiple shifts, and what to do immediately after the result is declared is as important as the preparation itself.
This page covers the complete JEE Main result process for 2027: expected result dates for Session 1 and Session 2, step-by-step scorecard download process, a line-by-line explanation of every field on the scorecard, the NTA Score normalisation methodology, marks vs percentile data from 2026, tie-breaking policy, and the complete post-result action plan from JEE Advanced registration to JoSAA counselling.
Live Update: The JEE Main 2027 result page will be linked here immediately upon NTA's official release. Check back after Session 1 (February 2027) and Session 2 (April 2027).
Visit the JEE Main complete guide for dates, eligibility, syllabus, cutoff, and all related resources.
NTA declares results separately for Session 1 and Session 2. The Session 2 result is the definitive result that carries the final All India Rank and qualifying cutoff.

The JEE Main scorecard is available exclusively online at jeemain.nta.nic.in. No physical scorecard or marksheet is sent by post or courier. Candidates must download and save the digital scorecard.
Step 1: Visit the official JEE Main portal at jeemain.nta.nic.in on or after the result declaration date.
Step 2: Look for the "JEE Main 2027 Result" or "Download Score Card" link on the homepage. This link becomes active only after the result is officially declared.
Step 3: Click on the result link. A login page will appear.
Step 4: Enter your JEE Main 2027 Application Number (received during registration) and your Date of Birth or Password.
Step 5: Enter the captcha code displayed on screen and click Submit.
Step 6: Your scorecard will appear on screen. Verify all details including name, date of birth, application number, and scores.
Step 7: Click "Download" or "Print" to save the scorecard as a PDF. Take multiple copies for your records.
Step 8: Log out after downloading.
If the result page shows an error or does not load, it is typically due to high server traffic immediately after result declaration. Wait 15 to 30 minutes and retry. Do not repeatedly click the login button; it may lock your account temporarily. If the problem persists after 2 hours, contact NTA at jeemain@nta.ac.in with your Application Number and a screenshot of the error.
The JEE Main 2027 scorecard will contain multiple fields. Understanding each one is essential for next steps.

Important Clarification: The NTA Score shown on the scorecard is a percentile (0 to 100), not a raw marks percentage. A score of 93.41 means the candidate performed better than 93.41 percent of all candidates who appeared in that session and shift. It does not mean the candidate scored 93.41 percent of total marks.
The NTA Score is the most widely misunderstood element of the JEE Main result. Understanding the calculation prevents interpretation errors.
The NTA Score is a normalised percentile score. It is NOT:
It IS:
Formula: NTA Score = (Number of candidates in session and shift who scored equal to or below the candidate / Total number of candidates in that session and shift) x 100
JEE Main 2026 was conducted in 26 shifts across 2 sessions and multiple dates. A candidate appearing in a tough shift (e.g., January 23 Shift 2) faces harder questions than a candidate appearing in an easy shift (e.g., January 22 Shift 1). Without normalisation, a candidate who scored 140 in the tough shift might be ranked lower than someone who scored 140 in the easy shift, even though relative performance was identical.
NTA's percentile-based normalisation accounts for this by comparing each candidate's performance within their shift rather than across all shifts directly. The final AIR is determined by comparing the best percentile each candidate obtained from either session.
Step 1: For each shift and session, calculate the raw score of every candidate based on the final answer key (+4 correct, -1 incorrect).
Step 2: For each shift, calculate the percentile of every candidate based on their raw score rank within that shift.
Step 3: If a candidate appeared in both Session 1 and Session 2, take the higher NTA Score from either session as their final NTA Score.
Step 4: Rank all candidates from highest to lowest NTA Score to produce the All India Rank list.
Step 5: Apply tie-breaking rules when two candidates have identical NTA Scores (higher NTA Score in Mathematics, then Physics, then Chemistry, then correct-to-incorrect ratio).
The following data is based on JEE Main 2026 Session 2 paper analysis and normalisation trends. Exact values vary every year based on paper difficulty and number of candidates.
| Raw Score (out of 300) Approximate NTA Percentile Approximate AIR | ||
| 285 to 300 | 99.97 to 100 | Top 50 |
| 260 to 285 | 99.8 to 99.97 | 50 to 3000 |
| 230 to 260 | 99.2 to 99.8 | 3000 to 12000 |
| 200 to 230 | 98.0 to 99.2 | 12000 to 30000 |
| 170 to 200 | 95.5 to 98.0 | 30000 to 65000 |
| 140 to 170 | 92.0 to 95.5 | 65000 to 1,20,000 |
| 110 to 140 | 84.0 to 92.0 | 1,20,000 to 2,50,000 |
| Below 110 | Below 84 | Beyond 2,50,000 |
These ranges are for moderate-difficulty shifts and the General category. In harder shifts, the same raw score yields a higher percentile. For reserved categories, the cutoff percentile is lower.
The JEE Main 2026 qualifying cutoff was 93.4123549 percentile for the General category, corresponding to approximately AIR 2,50,182 among 15.38 lakh unique candidates who appeared.
| Feature Session 1 Result Session 2 Result | ||
| What is released | Individual NTA Scores (percentile) | NTA Scores + All India Rank + Qualifying Cutoff |
| AIR released | No | Yes |
| JEE Advanced eligibility | Not declared | Declared |
| Counselling eligibility confirmed | No | Yes |
| JoSAA registration | Not applicable | Opens after Session 2 result |
The Session 1 result gives you your percentile score for Session 1 only. Its primary use is to gauge your performance and decide whether to appear in Session 2 (which you should, regardless, since the best score is always taken).
The period between result declaration and the start of counselling is extremely time-sensitive. The following action plan applies to April 2027 when the Session 2 result is declared.
Day 1: Download and save the scorecard from jeemain.nta.nic.in. Verify all details. Take 5 to 6 printouts and store digital copies in multiple locations (email, cloud storage, hard disk).
Day 1 to 2: Check whether you have qualified for JEE Advanced 2027 using the "Status for JEE Advanced" field on the scorecard. If qualified, begin JEE Advanced registration immediately as the window typically opens within days of the JEE Main result.
Day 2 to 5: Use your AIR to research realistic NIT, IIIT, and GFTI options using JoSAA 2026 closing ranks as a reference. Visit the JEE Main Cutoff page for NIT and IIIT branch-wise closing rank data.
Day 3 to 7: JoSAA 2027 registration is expected to open within 6 to 8 weeks of the Session 2 result. Begin compiling all required documents for JoSAA counselling.

Q1. When will JEE Main 2027 Session 2 result be declared? Based on NTA's pattern (JEE Main 2026 Session 2 result was declared April 20, 2026), the JEE Main 2027 Session 2 result is expected in the last week of April 2027.
Q2. Is the NTA Score the same as the marks scored? No. The NTA Score is a percentile, not a marks percentage. A score of 95.00 means the candidate outperformed 95 percent of all candidates in their shift, not that they scored 95 percent of total marks.
Q3. Can I improve my result by appearing in Session 2 after getting a Session 1 score? Yes. NTA takes the better NTA Score from either session for the final AIR. Appearing in Session 2 can only maintain or improve your rank; it cannot reduce your best Session 1 score.
Q4. My Session 1 score is already above the qualifying cutoff. Should I still appear in Session 2? Yes. Even if you have crossed the qualifying cutoff, a higher Session 2 score gives you a better AIR, which directly determines your options in JoSAA counselling. A difference of 0.5 percentile points can mean thousands of rank positions and the difference between a CSE and ECE seat at a top NIT.
Q5. I qualified JEE Main but missed JEE Advanced registration. What are my options? If you miss the JEE Advanced 2027 registration window, you lose your chance at IITs for that year. Your JEE Main result remains valid for JoSAA counselling for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. For IIT admission, you will need to qualify JEE Main again and register for JEE Advanced in the following year, provided you are within your attempt limit.
Q6. How long is the JEE Main scorecard valid? The JEE Main scorecard for a given year is valid only for that year's admissions (JoSAA counselling and JEE Advanced that year). It does not carry forward to future years for admission purposes. Your attempt eligibility depends on your Class 12 pass year, not on previous scores.
Q7. What is the JEE Main 2026 final answer key URL? The final answer key for JEE Main 2026 is available at jeemain.nta.nic.in under the "Answer Key" section. It can be downloaded using your Application Number and Password.
