The Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG) is India's largest undergraduate entrance examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to over 300 universities across India including all 47 Central Universities, premier State Universities, Private Universities, and Deemed Universities. Introduced in 2022 under the "One Nation, One Entrance Exam" policy, CUET UG replaced the individual entrance tests and Class 12 percentage-based admissions at participating universities, creating a single, standardised gateway for lakhs of Class 12 students seeking undergraduate admission to institutions such as Delhi University (DU), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
CUET UG 2026 began on May 11, 2026, and is scheduled to conclude on May 31, 2026. The examination is being conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode across 379 cities in India and 26 cities outside India. On Day 1 alone, 1,24,020 candidates appeared across two shifts at 314 and 281 exam centres respectively.
The CUET UG 2026 official notification was released by NTA on January 3, 2026, at cuet.nta.nic.in. The registration concluded with the last date being February 26, 2026. The admit card was released on May 5, 2026.

CUET UG (Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate) is a national-level entrance examination conducted by NTA for admission to undergraduate (UG) programmes at participating central, state, private, and deemed universities across India. CUET UG provides a unified platform for students from all backgrounds, enabling them to secure admission to prestigious institutions like Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University through a single examination, replacing the previously fragmented system of individual university entrance tests and board percentage-based admissions.
CUET UG tests candidates in three sections: Section I (Language), Section II (Domain Specific Subjects), and Section III (General Test). Candidates choose subjects based on their academic background and the requirements of universities and programmes they wish to apply for.
The introduction of CUET UG has fundamentally changed undergraduate admissions in India. For candidates from CBSE, ICSE, or state boards, CUET provides a level playing field that removes the pressure of board examination percentage differences across systems as the primary determinant of university admission.

CUET UG eligibility is simple and broad, making it accessible to virtually all Class 12 students.
Candidates must have passed Class 12 or its equivalent from a recognised board. Students appearing in Class 12 examinations in 2026 are also eligible. There is no age limit prescribed by NTA. Candidates of any age can take the exam provided they meet the educational requirements. Foreign nationals, NRIs, PIOs, and OCIs can also apply for CUET UG.
For most universities, candidates require at least 45% marks in Class 12 for General category and 40% for SC/ST/OBC candidates for actual admission eligibility. However, these are university-specific admission criteria and are not required to appear in CUET UG.
There is no minimum marks requirement prescribed by NTA to appear in CUET UG. Any Class 12 student can appear regardless of board percentage.
| Category Typical Minimum Class 12 Marks for Admission | |
| General / UR | 45% to 50% (varies by university) |
| OBC-NCL | 42% to 45% |

Six subjects have been discontinued from CUET 2026: Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, Fashion Studies, Tourism, Legal Studies, and Engineering Graphics. For programmes previously requiring these subjects, admission is now based on the General Aptitude Test.
CUET 2026 is available in 13 languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
The Language test includes Reading Comprehension (factual, literary, and narrative passages), vocabulary, grammar, and linguistic expression.

The General Test covers General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude. It has 60 questions out of which 50 are to be attempted.
In 2024, over 7 lakh students appeared for the General Test, making it one of the most attempted sections in CUET UG.
The General Test is required for specific programmes (such as BBA, BCA, and programmes at universities like JNU and GGSIPU) that need it as a mandatory component. Candidates should check the specific university and programme requirements before selecting the General Test.

Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics domain papers are based exclusively on Class 12 NCERT content. The paper tests conceptual understanding and application across the complete Class 12 syllabus.
High-weightage areas in CUET Science papers:
Accountancy, Business Studies, and Economics papers follow Class 12 NCERT syllabuses.
History, Political Science, Geography, Sociology, and Psychology papers are based on Class 12 NCERT content.
The syllabus for all Domain Subjects is based on NCERT Class 12 textbooks. Unlike JEE or NEET which test Class 11 and 12 combined, CUET domain subjects are primarily Class 12-based.
For complete chapter-wise topic lists and CUET 2026 syllabus changes, visit the CUET UG Syllabus page and use the CUET UG Syllabus Tracker.

Most CUET UG domain subject questions are based on the NCERT Class 12 syllabus, which highlights the importance of strong conceptual preparation from school-level textbooks.

CUET result will be declared by NTA after the release of the final answer keys. The result contains normalised marks as well as percentile obtained in each subject.
The CUET percentile is calculated as: 100 × (Number of candidates appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than a candidate) / (Total number of candidates appeared for CUET UG).
CUET results are generally announced in July. The CUET cutoff based on scores starts to come out in the last week of July itself. Universities like DU, BHU, and Allahabad University begin their admission process by releasing cutoffs around 2 to 3 weeks after the result announcement.
CUET counselling is not conducted in a centralised manner. Each participating university releases the CUET counselling form on its official website. Based on CUET score, candidates must register for counselling on the university official website and enter their course and college preferences. Generally, there are approximately three rounds of counselling.
For DU Admission: Register on the DU CSAS (Common Seat Allocation System) portal and fill programme and college preferences. DU releases cutoff lists round-wise.
For BHU Admission: Apply on bhu.ac.in when counselling is announced. BHU releases cutoff in 4 rounds.
For JNU Admission: Apply on jnu.ac.in. JNU uses CUET scores for integrated and language programmes.
