CUET UG 2026 is being conducted across 21 days from May 11 to May 31, 2026. Unlike NEET or JEE Main which have a single exam day, CUET candidates appear on multiple different days based on their selected subjects. Each exam day follows the same logistics structure, but candidates must refer to their specific subject's admit card for the exact date, shift, and centre details.
Every preventable exam day error, arriving late, forgetting the admit card, carrying prohibited electronics, or misunderstanding the CBT interface, directly wastes preparation investment. CUET exam day requires precise logistics preparation as much as academic preparation.
This page covers the complete CUET UG 2026 exam day guidance: shift timings, document checklist, prohibited items, biometric verification process, dress code advisory, CBT interface instructions, time management strategy for the 60-minute papers, and a day-before preparation checklist.
All guidance is based on NTA's official CUET UG 2026 instructions including the Advisory on Dress Code and Permissible Items released before the May 11, 2026 commencement. The 2027 exam day process is expected to be identical.
Note: CUET UG 2026 is currently ongoing (May 11 to May 31, 2026). This page covers the current cycle. CUET UG 2027 exam day guidance will be updated upon the January 2027 notification release.
Visit the CUET UG complete guide for the full exam overview.
CUET UG 2026 is conducted in two shifts daily. Each candidate's specific shift and date are mentioned on the admit card.
| Shift Exam Timing Recommended Arrival Centre Gate Closes Hall Entry Closes | ||||
| Shift 1 (Morning) | 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM | By 7:30 AM | 8:30 AM | 8:45 AM |
| Shift 2 (Afternoon) | 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM | By 1:30 PM | 2:30 PM | 2:45 PM |
Important clarifications on timings:
Since CUET runs across 379 cities with multiple centres, candidate volume at each centre varies significantly. Major city centres in Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad typically have larger queues during biometric processing. Arrive by 7:00 AM for Shift 1 if appearing in a high-density centre.
Every document below is mandatory. Missing any item may result in denial of entry.
| Document Specification | |
| CUET UG 2026 Admit Card (Printed) | Printed on A4 paper; clear and legible; coloured or black-and-white; mobile screen NOT accepted |
| Original Valid Government-Issued Photo ID | Any ONE of: Aadhaar Card, Passport, Voter ID, Driving Licence, PAN Card |
| Passport-Size Photographs | 2 recent photographs matching the one uploaded during registration |
The CUET UG 2026 admit card was released on May 5, 2026, at cuet.nta.nic.in. Candidates appeared in multiple subjects on different dates download a separate admit card for each subject, or one combined admit card showing all subjects and their respective dates.
Before printing, verify on screen:
Print 2 to 3 copies of each subject's admit card. The invigilator retains one copy.
96.6 percent of candidates were allotted their preferred city as per NTA's official press release dated May 5, 2026. A re-allocation window was provided from May 5 to 7, 2026, for remaining candidates. Verify your assigned city on the city intimation slip released April 29, 2026, and confirm the centre address before exam day.
NTA released an official Advisory on Dress Code and Permissible Items for candidates appearing in CUET UG 2026. This advisory was released before the May 11, 2026 commencement.
| Category Guideline | |
| General clothing | Light, comfortable clothing preferred; no specific formal dress requirement |
| Full-sleeve garments | Permitted but may be checked at security; avoid unnecessary layers |
| Footwear | Open footwear (sandals, slippers) preferred to simplify security checks; closed shoes permitted but may be inspected |
| Headgear | Not permitted except for religious reasons; face must remain clearly visible |
| Accessories | Minimal metallic accessories; large metallic jewellery may trigger security equipment |
| Hair accessories | Simple, non-metallic clips and pins preferred |
The NTA dress code advisory released before CUET 2026 specifically recommended that candidates avoid wearing items with buttons and metallic accessories as these can be confused with electronic devices during frisking. Students from specific communities observing religious dress codes were permitted with face clearly visible for biometric verification.

NTA conducts biometric verification at CUET UG examination centres. CUET UG 2026 continued the biometric verification process established in previous years.
Step 1: Outer Gate Document Check Show your printed admit card and original photo ID at the outer entry gate. Gate staff confirm you are at the correct centre for your assigned shift.
Step 2: Hall Entry Verification At the examination hall entry, the invigilator:
Step 3: Biometric Capture Fingerprint impressions are captured at the entry checkpoint. In some centres, a live photograph is also captured for identity verification. Candidates with fingerprint issues (skin condition, worn fingerprints) should inform the invigilator immediately. The centre has an alternative verification process for such cases.
Step 4: Seating and System Login You are directed to your assigned computer workstation. The screen shows your name, application number, and exam details. Verify these before the exam begins. If any detail is incorrect, inform the invigilator before the exam clock starts.
CUET UG is a Computer-Based Test. Understanding the interface before exam day eliminates time wasted on orientation.
Question Palette: A numbered grid on the right side showing all 50 questions, colour-coded:
Timer: A countdown timer showing remaining time for the current paper. When it reaches zero, the paper is automatically submitted.
Navigation: Free navigation within the paper. You can jump to any question at any time.
Save and Next: Saves your current response and moves to the next question.
Clear Response: Removes your selected answer, making the question unattempted.
Mark for Review: Flags a question to return to. A marked question with a saved response is evaluated.
On-Screen Calculator: A basic calculator is available within the CBT interface for arithmetic operations. No external calculator is permitted.
Multiple Subjects on Different Days: If you are appearing in multiple subjects, each subject's paper opens on its assigned exam day only. You cannot access future subject papers before their scheduled date.
NTA provides a free official mock test at nta.ac.in that uses the same CBT interface as the actual CUET exam. Attempt at least 2 to 3 sessions on the official NTA mock portal before your first exam date to eliminate interface unfamiliarity.
The CUET UG Full Length Mock Test Series also replicates the CBT format under the 60-minute timed constraint for exam-condition practice.
With 50 questions in 60 minutes, the average time available is 72 seconds per question. Different subjects require different time distributions.
| Subject Fast Questions Slow Questions Strategy | |||
| English | RC questions (60-90 sec each) | Vocab and grammar (30-40 sec) | Read passage strategically; answer linked questions immediately |
| Physics | Direct formula (45-60 sec) | Multi-step numerical (90-120 sec) | Use scratch sheet; move on if stuck beyond 90 sec |
| Chemistry | Factual NCERT (30-50 sec) | Numerical (60-90 sec) | NCERT facts first; numericals second |
| Biology | NCERT direct (30-45 sec) | Process/diagram based (60-80 sec) | High attempt count target: 46-50 |
| Accountancy | Theory (30-45 sec) | Journal entry/ratio numerical (90-150 sec) | Do theory first; calculations last |
| Business Studies | All theory (30-45 sec) | Case-study (60-90 sec) | Very fast for prepared candidates; target 48-50 |
| Economics | Definition/theory (40-60 sec) | Calculations (90-120 sec) | Attempt calculations only if conceptually clear |
| History/Political Science | Direct NCERT (30-45 sec) | Source-based (90-120 sec per set) | Source questions: read passage, answer all 5 linked |
| General Test | GK/Current Affairs (30-40 sec) | QA/DI (90-120 sec) | Start with GK; tackle QA and DI after banking easy marks |
First Pass (First 35 to 40 minutes): Go through all 50 questions in order. Attempt every question you can answer in under 60 seconds with confidence. Mark all remaining questions for review.
Second Pass (Remaining 20 to 25 minutes): Return to marked questions. Spend up to 2 minutes on calculation-heavy questions. For remaining uncertain MCQs, make educated guesses using the +5/-1 rule (eliminate what you can, then attempt).
Since CUET has +5 for correct and -1 for incorrect, even a 25% random guess has a positive expected value. The two-pass method ensures all easy questions are secured before time runs out on harder ones.
The evening before your CUET exam day should be entirely logistics-focused. No new academic content should be studied.
| Task Details | |
| Print admit card | 2 to 3 clear A4 printouts for that specific subject's exam date |
| Verify centre address | Open Google Maps; confirm route, travel time, and parking or transport options |
| Plan departure time | Arrive by 7:00-7:30 AM (Shift 1) or 1:30 PM (Shift 2); calculate departure with traffic buffer |
| Keep ID document ready | Original Aadhaar or Passport in a safe, visible pouch |
| Prepare 2 photographs | Matching the registration photograph; white background |
| No personal calculator or pen drive | Confirm you are not carrying any prohibited electronic device |
| Prepare transparent water bottle | Plain water only |
| Light revision only | Review key formulas (Physics, Chemistry, Economics) and important chapter summaries; no new NCERT chapters |
| No full mock tests | Do not attempt a full 50-question mock the evening before |
| Sleep by 10:00 PM | 7 to 8 hours of sleep is non-negotiable for sustained 60-minute analytical focus |
| Set multiple alarms | 2 to 3 alarms for morning; do not rely on a single alarm |
Since CUET candidates appear on different dates for different subjects, the following applies for multi-subject candidates:
Between exam days: Continue light revision for upcoming subjects. Avoid heavy study that causes fatigue for the next exam day. Use the gap days for consolidation, not new content learning.
Answer key release: NTA releases the answer key approximately 2 to 3 weeks after the exam concludes (May 31, 2026). Do not obsess over score estimation between exam days. Focus on the next scheduled subject.
Mental preparation: Each CUET subject exam is independent. A difficult paper in one subject does not affect your performance in the next. Reset mentally between exam days.
Q1. Can I show the admit card on my mobile phone at the CUET centre? No. A printed copy of the admit card is mandatory. NTA explicitly requires a physical printout; digital display on a mobile phone is not accepted, and mobile phones are prohibited inside the centre.
Q2. What happens if I arrive after the gate closes? You will be denied entry without exception. No alternative arrangement is provided for late arrivals. Plan to arrive at least 90 minutes before your exam start time.
Q3. Can I bring my own pen or pencil to CUET? No personal stationery is required. The examination centre provides rough material. Do not bring personal pens or pencils.
Q4. Is a calculator provided in CUET UG? Yes. A basic on-screen calculator is available within the CBT interface. No external calculator is permitted.
Q5. What do I do if there is a technical problem during the exam? Raise your hand immediately and call the invigilator. Do not attempt to fix technical issues yourself. The invigilator will log the issue and the exam system typically restores your session with remaining time intact.
Q6. If I am appearing in 5 subjects, do I go to the exam centre 5 times? Yes. Each subject is scheduled on a specific date. You visit the assigned centre for each subject on its respective exam date as per your admit card.
Q7. Can I change my exam centre or date after admit card release? No. Exam centre and date are fixed after admit card release. Changes are not permitted. If there is an error in the admit card, contact NTA at 011-69227700 or cuet-ug@nta.ac.in immediately.
