The CUET UG 2026 application process is the administrative gateway to appearing in India's largest undergraduate entrance examination. A single error in subject selection, a mismatched photograph, or a missed deadline can have consequences that range from a blocked admit card to ineligibility for specific university programmes. Given that over 13 lakh candidates register each year, the NTA portal is heavily used during peak registration days, and candidates who delay registration risk server timeouts and last-minute technical failures.
The CUET UG 2026 application form was released on January 3, 2026, on the official website cuet.nta.nic.in. The original application window closed on February 4, 2026 (11:50 PM), and NTA later reopened the application window from February 23 to February 26, 2026 (11:50 PM). For CUET UG 2027, registration is expected to follow the same January to February timeline.
This page provides the complete CUET UG 2026 application guide: step-by-step registration process, document specifications, fee structure, subject selection strategy, city preference choices, correction window rules, mandatory live photo capture process, and common mistakes to avoid.
Official Portal: All CUET UG registration must be completed exclusively at cuet.nta.nic.in. Do not use any third-party website or agent.

Candidates should update Aadhaar details well in advance to avoid mismatch issues during registration.

After verifying via OTP on mobile, the system generates your Application Number and sends your Password to the registered email. Store both immediately and securely. The Application Number is your permanent credential for all CUET UG 2026 activities.
New in 2026: Mandatory Live Photo Capture After entering basic details, the portal initiates a live photograph capture process. Candidates must take a real-time photograph using their device's front camera or by scanning a QR code on the portal to capture via mobile. Requirements:
If your device camera is not functional, use a second device (mobile) by scanning the QR code shown on the portal.
Log in using your Application Number and Password. The application form has several sections.
Personal Details:
Academic Details:
Category and PwD Details:
This is the most consequential step of CUET UG registration. Errors here can render you ineligible for specific programmes even with high CUET scores.
University and Programme Selection: The registration form allows you to indicate which universities and programmes you wish to apply for. This does not replace the university's own counselling/application process (each university has a separate post-CUET application) but informs NTA of your intended use of the CUET score.
Subject Selection: You can select a maximum of 5 subjects across all three sections. Each subject carries an additional fee beyond the base registration fee. The combination must align with your target university and programme requirements.
The entire process is online. Candidates select their subjects based on the requirements of their target university and course.
Common Subject Combinations for Popular Programmes:
| Target Programme Required CUET Subjects | |
| DU B.Com (Hons.) | Language (English/Hindi) + Accountancy and/or Business Studies/Economics |
| DU B.A. (Hons.) Economics | Language + Economics (mandatory) |
| DU B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics | Language + Physics + Mathematics |
| DU B.Sc. (Hons.) Biology | Language + Biology |
| DU B.A. (Hons.) History | Language + History |
| BHU B.Sc. | Language + 2 to 3 Science domain subjects |
| JNU Foreign Language Programme | Language (relevant language) |
| GGSIPU BBA | Language + General Test |
Always verify subject requirements from the specific university's admission notification before finalising subject selection. Choosing the wrong subjects means you cannot apply for specific programmes at specific universities, regardless of your CUET score.
Important 2026 Change: No Subject Restriction From 2026, students can choose any domain subject regardless of their Class 12 stream. A Science student can select Accountancy; a Commerce student can select Physics. However, the preparation requirement remains: CUET domain papers test Class 12 NCERT content for that subject, and candidates without that Class 12 background must prepare independently.
Select up to 4 preferred exam cities in order of priority. CUET UG 2026 is conducted in 379 cities across India and 26 cities outside India.
NTA assigns an exam city from your preferences based on availability. According to the official NTA press release dated May 5, 2026, 96.6 percent of candidates were allotted their preferred city. A re-allocation window was opened for remaining candidates from May 5 to 7, 2026, allowing them to select from a different state or city.
City Selection Strategy:
All documents must meet the exact specifications below. The portal rejects files that do not conform.

Signature Specifications:
| Parameter Requirement | |
| Format | JPEG or JPG only |

NTA advised all PwD candidates to update their UDID Card and Disability Certificate before filling the CUET UG 2026 application form. The UDID card or disability certificate must reflect current status.
After completing all sections, the system displays the applicable fee based on category and number of subjects selected.
CUET UG 2026 Application Fee Structure:
| Category Base Fee (up to 3 subjects) Additional Subject Fee | ||
| General / UR | Rs. 800 | Rs. 300 per additional subject |
| OBC-NCL / EWS | Rs. 750 | Rs. 275 per additional subject |
| SC / ST / PwD / Third Gender | Rs. 650 | Rs. 250 per additional subject |
| Outside India (All categories) | Rs. 4,000 | Rs. 1,000 per additional subject |
Example fee calculation: A General category candidate selecting 5 subjects pays Rs. 800 (base for up to 3 subjects) + Rs. 300 × 2 (for 2 additional subjects) = Rs. 1,400 total.
