The CUET UG syllabus is the foundation of every preparation decision you make: which subjects to select, which chapters to prioritise, how to allocate study time between subjects, and which NCERT textbooks to treat as mandatory versus optional reading. Unlike NEET or JEE Main, where a fixed syllabus applies to all candidates, CUET UG syllabus choices are personalised. Each candidate selects the subjects relevant to their target university programmes, making correct syllabus understanding even more critical.
The National Testing Agency has officially released the revised CUET UG 2026 syllabus, which has published for 27 domain subjects, 33 languages, and the General Test. The syllabus has been streamlined, with 26 subjects removed across three sections. Previously offering 63 subjects, NTA has now reduced the options to 37 for students to choose from.
This page provides the complete, authenticated CUET UG 2026 syllabus for all three sections, subject-wise topic details for Science, Commerce, and Humanities streams, a comprehensive list of discontinued subjects, key 2026 syllabus changes in 15 subjects, the General Test syllabus, language paper structure, and a strategic preparation guide for each section.
Official Source: The CUET UG 2026 syllabus is published by NTA at cuet.nta.nic.in as subject-wise PDF files. Always download subject-specific PDFs from the official NTA portal to ensure you are referencing the current syllabus and not a cached version from a previous cycle.
Visit the CUET UG complete guide for the full exam overview, dates, eligibility, cutoff, and all resources.

The NTA has made changes in 15 subjects out of 37 subjects in the CUET UG 2026 syllabus. The CUET syllabus changes 2026 include subjects like Accountancy, Business Studies, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and others.
The following 6 subjects have been discontinued and will not be offered in CUET 2026 under any circumstances:
| Discontinued Subject Alternative for Admission | |
| Entrepreneurship | General Aptitude Test (GAT) |
| Teaching Aptitude | General Aptitude Test (GAT) |
| Fashion Studies | General Aptitude Test (GAT) |
| Tourism | General Aptitude Test (GAT) |
| Legal Studies | General Aptitude Test (GAT) |
| Engineering Graphics | General Aptitude Test (GAT) |
For these programmes, admissions are to be made on the basis of performance in the General Aptitude Test.
The National Testing Agency has removed a number of languages such as French, Spanish, German, Nepali, Persian and more from the CUET UG 2026 syllabus. Languages now available are limited to 13 Indian languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
Chemistry (Code 306) generally shows the most significant difference between the CUET UG 2026 Syllabus and the rationalized Class 12 board syllabus. For CUET UG 2026, the NTA has kept the Chemistry Syllabus with a detailed 16-unit structure. Aspirants may not be able to depend on their board exam preparation only. The CUET UG 2026 Chemistry Syllabus requires that six chapters which have been removed from the CBSE curriculum but are quite integral to the CUET assessment should be covered. These topics represent additions to a standard student's academic year, i.e., they are not part of the rationalized NCERT board curriculum but are assessed only in the CUET UG 2026 Chemistry Syllabus.
This is the most critical syllabus awareness point for 2026: CUET Chemistry includes topics that CBSE has removed from the board syllabus but NTA has retained for CUET. Students who prepared only from their board curriculum will encounter unfamiliar Chemistry questions.
The Language section tests a candidate's proficiency in their chosen language through reading comprehension and linguistic ability.
CUET UG 2026 Language Section is available in 13 languages:
| Language Code | |
| English | 101 |
| Hindi | 102 |
| Assamese | 103 |
| Bengali | 104 |
| Gujarati | 105 |
| Kannada | 106 |
| Malayalam | 107 |
| Marathi | 108 |
| Odia | 109 |
| Punjabi | 110 |
| Tamil | 111 |
| Telugu | 112 |
| Urdu | 113 |
| Component Type Questions | ||
| Reading Comprehension (Factual Passages) | MCQ | 10 to 12 |
| Reading Comprehension (Literary Passages) | MCQ | 10 to 12 |
| Reading Comprehension (Narrative Passages) | MCQ | 8 to 10 |
| Vocabulary and Word Usage | MCQ | 5 to 8 |
| Grammar and Language Rules | MCQ | 8 to 10 |
| Linguistic Expression | MCQ | 5 to 8 |
| Total | 50 questions |
The Language paper rewards consistent reading practice over rote grammar memorisation. For English, read 1 to 2 quality articles daily from The Hindu, The Indian Express, or educational magazines. For regional languages, read newspapers and literary passages in your chosen language.
Grammar revision should focus on: tenses, voice (active and passive), narration (direct and indirect speech), modals, conditionals, articles, prepositions, and conjunctions. These categories consistently appear across all language papers.
Passages in CUET Language Section are of varying types: factual (informative, data-driven), literary (prose extracts from literature), and narrative (story-based). Practice reading all three types to avoid being surprised by the passage genre on exam day.
Domain subjects form the core of most candidates' CUET preparation. CUET 2026 will be based on Class 12 syllabus and hence candidates of Class 12 need not prepare for it separately. However, there are important exceptions in subjects like Chemistry where CUET retains topics removed from the CBSE board curriculum.
Several students skip NCERT Class 11 chapters for subjects like Economics and Political Science, assuming only Class 12 content is tested. In reality, the NTA CUET UG syllabus for some subjects explicitly lists Class 11 units as well. Always verify chapter inclusion from the official subject-wise PDF.

The CUET 2026 General Test is an optional section for candidates to include in their preparation and can be opted for courses which include the CUET deleted subjects. The General Test has 60 questions out of which 50 are to be attempted (candidates choose any 50 of 60).
| Category Topics | |
| General Knowledge | Indian History, Geography, Polity, Economy basics, Science and Technology, Awards and Honours |
| Current Affairs | National and International Events (last 6 to 12 months), Government Schemes, Appointments |
| Quantitative Reasoning | Percentages, Ratios, Profit and Loss, Time and Work, Time Speed Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Averages |
| Logical Reasoning | Series (Number, Letter, Figure), Analogy, Classification, Blood Relations, Direction Sense, Coding-Decoding, Ranking and Order |
| Numerical Aptitude | Data Interpretation (Tables, Bar Charts, Pie Charts), Simplification |
| Scientific Aptitude | Basic concepts from Class 10 to 12 Science; applied science questions |
Reasoning includes the basic application of mathematical concepts such as Quantitative Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, and Statistics. These areas are crucial for scoring well in the General Test section.
The General Test is mandatory for programmes that previously required discontinued subjects (Entrepreneurship, Legal Studies, Tourism, etc.) or for universities that specifically require it for certain programmes (such as BBA and BCA programmes at GGSIPU and some DU programmes). Check each target university's and programme's specific subject requirements before deciding whether to include the General Test in your CUET application.
Subject selection is one of the most consequential decisions in your CUET UG application. Wrong subject selection can make you ineligible for specific university programmes even with a high score.
Before selecting subjects, list every programme you want to apply to and check each programme's required subject combination. Most universities publish a list of required CUET domain subjects for each course. For example:
| Programme Required CUET Subjects (Typical) | |
| B.A. (Hons.) Economics at DU | Economics (mandatory) + any 1 language |
| B.Com (Hons.) at DU | Any 2 of: Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, Mathematics + 1 language |
| B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics at DU | Physics + Mathematics + 1 language |
| B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics at DU | Mathematics + 1 language |
| B.A. (Hons.) History at DU | History + 1 language |
| BBA at JNU / GGSIPU | General Test + 1 language |
Select subjects that maximise your eligibility across the most programmes. A Science student targeting multiple DU B.Sc. programmes should choose Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics (subject to the 5-subject maximum).
Since every subject contributes to your score for programme-specific cutoffs, prioritise subjects where your Class 12 preparation is strongest. A B.Com aspirant with stronger Economics than Accountancy should select Economics as their primary domain subject.
A student can appear for a maximum of 5 subjects. The selection must include at least one language. Choosing 3, 4, or 5 subjects is permissible based on university and course requirements.
Use the CUET UG Syllabus Tracker to mark chapter-wise completion for each selected subject and monitor your preparation progress in real time.
The CUET syllabus PDF download for all subjects is available on the official NTA website (nta.ac.in). Each subject has a separate PDF listing units and topics. Download only the subjects you are appearing for to avoid confusion. When downloading, ensure you are accessing the NTA CUET official syllabus 2026 document and not a cached version from a previous cycle. File names on the NTA portal typically include the exam cycle year, making it easy to verify.
NCERT Class 12 textbooks are the primary and most reliable preparation resource. For the GAT section, supplement the NCERT with a current affairs source and basic reasoning/quant practice books.
For every domain subject, the preparation sequence is:
Since Chemistry includes chapters removed from the CBSE board curriculum (Polymers and Chemistry in Everyday Life), candidates must specifically source and study these chapters from:
The General Test rewards consistent preparation over focused cramming. Daily routine for GAT:
Since each CUET subject has 50 questions in 60 minutes (72 seconds per question average), speed is critical. Subject-wise timed mock tests are more important for CUET than for many other exams because the per-question time allowance is tighter than it appears for subjects with calculation or analysis requirements (Mathematics, Chemistry Physical problems, Data Interpretation in GAT).
