Q1. What is CUET UG? CUET UG (Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate) is India's largest national-level undergraduate entrance examination conducted by NTA for admission to UG programmes at 300+ participating universities including all 47 Central Universities like DU, BHU, JNU, JMI, and AMU. It tests candidates in Language, Domain-Specific Subjects, and an optional General Test.
Q2. When did CUET UG start? CUET UG was introduced in 2022 under the National Education Policy framework. It replaced individual university entrance tests and board percentage-based admissions at participating central universities.
Q3. How many universities accept CUET UG scores? CUET UG scores are accepted by over 300 universities including 47 central universities and numerous state, private, and deemed universities. This makes it the single exam with the widest UG admission reach in India.
Q4. What is the CUET UG 2026 exam date? CUET UG 2026 is being conducted from May 11 to May 31, 2026, in CBT mode across 379 Indian cities and 26 international cities.
Q5. How many candidates appear for CUET UG? 15,68,866 candidates registered for CUET UG 2026. In 2025, 13,54,699 registered and 10,71,735 appeared. Uttar Pradesh consistently provides the largest number of candidates.
Q6. Is CUET compulsory for DU admission? Yes. Delhi University (DU) admissions are strictly based on CUET UG scores. Board percentage alone is no longer used for DU undergraduate admissions since 2022.
Q7. Is there an age limit for CUET UG? No. NTA has not prescribed any age limit for CUET UG. For appearing in CUET (UG) 2026, there is no age limit for the candidates. Some universities may have course-specific age requirements that candidates should verify separately.
Q8. What is the minimum Class 12 percentage required for CUET UG? NTA prescribes no minimum marks to appear in CUET UG. Any Class 12 student can appear regardless of board percentage. The minimum marks condition (typically 45% General, 40% SC/ST) applies to actual university admission eligibility, not to appearing in the exam.
Q9. Can a student who passed Class 12 in 2023 appear for CUET UG 2026? Yes. CUET UG has no year-of-passing restriction. A candidate who passed Class 12 in any year is eligible to appear for CUET UG 2026, provided they meet the educational qualification requirement.
Q10. Can PCM (Science) students select Accountancy or History as CUET subjects? Yes. From CUET UG 2026, the subject restriction based on Class 12 stream has been removed. Students can choose any CUET domain subject regardless of their Class 12 stream. This is called subject freedom and is a major 2026 change.
Q11. Is work experience relevant for CUET UG? No. CUET UG is for undergraduate admissions and work experience is irrelevant. There is no work experience requirement or weightage in CUET UG eligibility or university admission processes.
Q12. Can a student who failed Class 12 and is appearing as a compartment/repeat candidate appear for CUET 2026? Yes. Students appearing in Class 12 examinations in 2026 (whether for the first time or as repeat/compartment candidates) are eligible to appear for CUET UG 2026.

Q16. How many subjects can I select in CUET UG? A maximum of 5 subjects: typically 1 language + up to 4 domain subjects, or 1 language + 3 domain subjects + General Test. The combination depends on your target university and programme requirements.
Q17. Can I change my selected subjects after submitting the form? Subject changes can be made during the application correction window (typically 3 to 5 days after registration closes). After that, changes are not permitted.
Q18. Is the CUET UG application fee refundable? No. The application fee is completely non-refundable under all circumstances.
Q19. What documents are required for CUET UG registration? Passport-size photograph (JPEG, 10 KB to 200 KB), signature (JPEG, 4 KB to 30 KB), and disability/category certificates if applicable. Unlike JEE or NEET, CUET UG does not require academic marksheets during online registration.
Q20. What is the mandatory live photo capture in CUET UG 2026? NTA introduced a real-time photograph capture during the registration process in 2026. Candidates must take a live photo using their device camera or QR code scan on mobile. This photo is used for biometric verification at the exam centre.
Q21. How many questions are in each CUET subject paper? 50 questions per subject paper (Language papers and Domain Subject papers both). The General Test has 60 questions, of which candidates attempt any 50.
Q22. What is the total marks in CUET UG per subject? 250 marks per subject (50 questions × 5 marks each). If 5 subjects are selected, the maximum total marks across all papers is 1,250.
Q23. What is the time given for each CUET subject? 60 minutes (uniform for all subjects since 2026). This is a change from pre-2026 when some subjects had 45 minutes.
Q24. What is the CUET UG marking scheme? +5 for correct answer, -1 for incorrect answer, 0 for unattempted. This applies to all sections and all subjects.
Q25. Are all 50 questions in CUET domain subjects compulsory? Yes. From 2024 onwards, all 50 questions in every domain subject paper are compulsory. Only the General Test retains choice (60 questions, attempt 50).
Q26. Is there normalisation in CUET UG 2026? No. Normalisation was discontinued from CUET 2024 and is not applied in 2025 or 2026. Raw scores directly determine cutoffs and merit lists.
Q27. What is the CUET exam mode? Computer Based Test (CBT) at NTA-designated examination centres. There is no pen-and-paper mode for CUET UG.
Q28. Can I attempt questions in any order in CUET UG? Yes. Within each subject's 60-minute paper, you can navigate freely between all 50 questions. You can skip a question and return to it before the timer expires.
Q29. Is a calculator provided in CUET UG? Yes. A basic on-screen calculator is available within the CBT interface for arithmetic calculations. No external calculator is permitted.
Q30. What is the syllabus for CUET UG domain subjects? CUET domain subject papers are based entirely on the NCERT Class 12 curriculum for each subject. There is no official syllabus PDF like NEET; instead, the Class 12 NCERT textbook for each subject is the de facto syllabus.
Q31. Are Class 11 topics tested in CUET UG? Primarily Class 12 for domain subjects. However, some subjects' official NTA syllabus PDFs include specific Class 11 units. Always download and verify the subject-specific official PDF from cuet.nta.nic.in.
Q32. What subjects are discontinued in CUET UG 2026? Six subjects: Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, Fashion Studies, Tourism, Legal Studies, and Engineering Graphics. For programmes that previously required these, admission is now based on the General Aptitude Test.
Q33. Has the CUET 2026 syllabus changed from 2025? Yes. NTA made changes in 15 subjects for CUET 2026. The most significant change is in Chemistry, which retains chapters (Polymers, Chemistry in Everyday Life) that CBSE has removed from the board curriculum.
Q34. Is the Chemistry CUET paper harder than the CBSE board exam? Yes, in scope. CUET Chemistry includes Polymers and Chemistry in Everyday Life which were removed from the CBSE rationalised curriculum. Students who prepared only from the current CBSE syllabus will encounter unfamiliar content.
Q35. What is the General Test syllabus? General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, Numerical Aptitude, and Scientific Aptitude. The General Test is optional and required only for specific programmes.
Q36. How do I decide which subjects to select in CUET UG? Select subjects that match the requirements of your target university programmes. Each university specifies which CUET domain subjects are required for each course. For example, DU B.Com (Hons.) typically requires Accountancy and/or Business Studies or Economics.
Q37. Should I select the General Test? Select the General Test only if your target university and programme specifically require it (e.g., BBA at GGSIPU, some JNU UG integrated programmes). Do not select it if none of your target programmes require it.
Q38. Can I select 5 subjects even if my target programme requires only 2? Yes. Selecting additional subjects gives you flexibility to apply to more programmes at more universities. However, each additional subject requires genuine preparation to score high. Selecting subjects you are unprepared for reduces your overall application competitiveness.
Q39. If I selected wrong subjects during registration, can I change them? Yes, during the correction window only (3 to 5 days after registration closes). After the window closes, changes are not possible.
Q40. What is the CUET score required for DU admission? For DU top colleges and popular programmes (B.Com Hons., Economics, Political Science), candidates should target 220 to 250 out of 250 per subject. A minimum score of 600 is required for prominent central institutions such as DU, AU, BHU, JNU, and JMI for popular courses.
Q41. What score do I need for any DU college? Even for mid-range DU colleges and less popular programmes, General category candidates typically need 185 to 210 out of 250 in their domain subjects. SC/ST category candidates can secure seats at lower scores due to reservation.
Q42. Does getting a high CUET score guarantee DU admission? No. Two conditions must be met: (1) Your CUET score must be at or above the cutoff for your specific college-programme combination, and (2) Your Class 12 marks must meet the university's minimum eligibility (typically 45% for General at DU). Additionally, you must apply through DU's CSAS portal within the deadline.
Q43. Is there a single CUET cutoff released by NTA? No. There is no centralised CUET cutoff from NTA. Each university independently releases its own cutoff after CUET results. Every university taking part declares its own CUET UG Cutoff; there isn't a universal CUET cut-off.
Q44. When do DU cutoffs come out after CUET result? DU releases cutoffs through its CSAS portal approximately 4 to 8 weeks after CUET result declaration. For CUET 2025 (result July 4, 2025), DU CSAS allocation began in October 2025.
Q45. Can I get a BHU seat with 150 out of 250 in my domain subject? Possibly, for Arts and some other programmes at BHU. BHU cutoffs are significantly lower than DU for equivalent programmes, typically 140 to 195 for Arts and Commerce depending on the specific programme and category.
Q46. How many CUET counselling rounds are there at DU? DU CSAS typically has 3 allocation rounds plus a spot round. Cutoffs generally decrease slightly with each subsequent round as unfilled seats become available.
Q47. When is the CUET UG 2026 result expected? Based on CUET 2025 result date (July 4, 2025), CUET 2026 result is expected in July 2026, approximately 4 to 6 weeks after May 31, 2026.
Q48. How do I download my CUET UG scorecard? Log in at cuet.nta.nic.in with your Application Number and Date of Birth after result declaration. Download the PDF scorecard and take multiple printouts.
Q49. What is the CUET answer key challenge fee? Rs. 200 per question challenged (non-refundable if rejected; refunded if the challenge is accepted).
Q50. Is CUET UG score valid for multiple years? No. CUET UG scores are valid for one year only. CUET 2026 score is valid for 2026-27 academic batch admissions only.
Q51. Do I need to apply separately to each university using my CUET score? Yes. CUET has no centralised counselling. Each university has its own separate admission portal. You must register independently on DU CSAS, BHU portal, JMI portal, and others to use your CUET score.
Q52. Is NCERT enough for CUET UG domain subjects? For most domain subjects, NCERT Class 12 is sufficient to score 200+ out of 250. However, for Chemistry, CUET retains chapters removed from the CBSE curriculum (Polymers, Chemistry in Everyday Life) which require additional preparation beyond the current CBSE board syllabus.
Q53. How many mock tests should I take before CUET UG? Target 15 to 20 full subject-wise mock tests (one complete 50-question, 60-minute paper per subject) before your exam date. Additionally, practice chapter-wise tests after completing each NCERT chapter. Access structured practice at CUET UG Complete Test Series 2027.
Q54. Which CUET subject is easiest to score 240+ out of 250? Business Studies is consistently rated the easiest CUET domain subject. Many well-prepared candidates target 48 to 50 out of 50 correct answers in BST. Political Science and Sociology are also reliable scoring subjects.
Q55. Which CUET subject is most difficult? Economics is consistently the most challenging Commerce subject. Mathematics is the most calculation-intensive. The Subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, and Accountancy are considered the most difficult in CUET UG because of their conceptual complexity, number intensity, and time-consuming problem-solving.
Q56. How should I prepare for CUET if I am also preparing for NEET or JEE? CUET domain subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics) use the same NCERT Class 12 content as NEET and JEE Main. CUET preparation for these subjects requires less additional effort for NEET/JEE aspirants since NCERT mastery is common. However, CUET question style differs: CUET is entirely Class 12 NCERT-based without the advanced depth of NEET/JEE questions.
Q57. How many years of CUET PYQs should I solve? All 4 available years (2022 to 2025). Since CUET started in 2022, only 4 years of papers are available. Solve all for each subject you are appearing in. Access chapter-wise PYQs at CUET UG PYQ.
Q58. Can I apply to DU and BHU using the same CUET score? Yes. Your CUET score can be used to apply to multiple universities simultaneously. Each university has its own application portal and deadline.
Q59. Is CUET UG conducted in offline mode anywhere? No. CUET UG is conducted exclusively in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. There is no pen-and-paper option.
Q60. My CUET subject paper is on different dates for different subjects. Do I go to the same centre each time? Not necessarily. Your admit card specifies the exam centre for each subject on each date. Different subjects may be scheduled at different centres or the same centre, depending on NTA's allocation. Check each subject's admit card carefully.
Q61. Can I attempt CUET UG in Hindi? Yes. CUET UG 2026 is available in 13 languages including Hindi. You choose your medium during registration and the question paper appears in both English and your chosen language for most domain subjects.
Q62. What is the NTA helpdesk number for CUET UG? 011-69227700. The helpdesk is available Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Email: cuet-ug@nta.ac.in. Official website: cuet.nta.nic.in.
